R11S custom painted

So I impulsively decided to paint my new R11S black. Will be adding a custom center dot on top soon once I decide what exactly I want and may put on some subtle graphics like on the orignal design. Thoughts on how it turned out would be appreciated!

Thanks! I did it with about 2 hours of very careful taping with 3M tape, a can of rustoleum flat black all purpose spray paint and valspar clear flat protectant. I did 2 light coats of each trying not to add much overall weight of the head.

No I did lightly sand the white to make sure the paint would stick well, forgot to say on my replay. I don't think it truly needs to be sanded since it not as slick of a surface as compared to other heads.

Just remember that dry paint does not necessarily equal cured paint. When the paint is dry but not cured it is very susceptible to chipping and marring. Cured will take time. There was a good thread here by Deerslayer regarding him murding out some Ping woods that covered the subject.

Good idea. According to Deerslayer it will take at least a week to cure. I would keep it in a warm place too.

wow.. I always liked the all black supertri and super deep look and you did an amazing job with that. It looks sooo much better!!!

 

p.s it must be worth at least 10 or 15 extra yards just for looking good

I am gonna reprint a driver soon. I can't decide if I wanna do my I15 in white or matte black. I am gonna use duracoat so I have plenty of color choices. You did a awesome job.

The black makes the head size appear smaller.

Or is it the white that makes the head size look bigger?

This may be a totally stupid question - but what if you did this and then placed the head only in a low heat oven? Say 200 degrees for an extended period of time - would that help the curing / durability - or would it completely screw up the paint job and the head? Was thinking you could do the same thing with heat resistance rustoleum (like paint for a gas grill) and then bake the head to cure it better / faster.

I haven't had a chance to take it out yet due to the weather here in Arkansas all week. Once the rain clears up I will take it out and post some feedback and photos from outside.
