Bubba Watson

I have not been a huge fan of Bubba's because I think his play gets overhyped, thanks to the obsession with long drives. I also thought he could seem a little surly when his round was not going well.

 

However I have to say - I saw him on Morning Drive today, and he seems like a tough guy not to like. Seemed good-natured, modest, self-depricating - and he was pretty damn funny. To my surprise, I've kind of become a Bubba fan now. I think he may have a future in the booth after his playing days are over.

He is just a good ole country boy, ignorant about many things. However, he is learning and actually very likable when he lets his guard down and relaxes. Lots of people can hit the long ball, but few play the shots that Bubba plays. He rarely takes a straight line, curves it this way and that, and is just fun to watch. His wedge play can be magical.

He does seem to hit it close an awful lot! There is something with him mentally for sure, and not sure it is a good thing. He is wired a bit different is all. I don't pull against him, but I hate that pink club.

I agree I think the announcers even mentioned that Bubba's mind races so much that part of his caddie's job is to keep him focused on golf. They said Bubba has never been tested for ADD but his mind is certainly wired differently.

But as Johnny Miller stated, there is some genius in Bubba's game also - he plays like pretty much no one else - and many people of unique abilities tend towards non-conventional ways of thinking.

Bubba is probably the toughest guy on tour for fans to read. On one hand he seems totally genuine sometimes and is certainly a breath of fresh air when hitting shots that no teacher would ever recommend. But sometimes he seems ignorant and flat out rude. I really don't know what to make of him to be honest...If i got to hang out with him for a day or something, i'm really not sure what i'd expect

Actually, I am not sure that it is ADD or ADHD. I have a few friends that are manic-depressive (bi-polar) and I think he might suffer from a mild case. That would explain his mood swings and self-loathing at times then happy and carefree at others.

I don't think there's a person in the game that I'd rather watch right now other than Bubba.. Crazy or not, I love to watch the guy hit a golf ball.

John Daly without the Alcohol. Fun to watch him hit it stupid long. Unfortunately the putter seems to abandon him at the wrong times.

Off the course Bubba seems like a fun loving , easy going , and just a great guy to be around and to have as a friend but on the course he just comes across as just miserable ,except for his drives he seems to bemoan or find fault with every shot especially putting , he mumbles to himself or his caddie never seems to smile or seem happy about a shot and just seems like he is never having fun , i do not understand how someone who has the world at his fingertips with a job he supposedly loves , a great wife and family , very committed to his religion and has most of the things that might make one jealous can appear so miserable or un happy while he is doing it

Yeah, I kind of suspect the same thing. You gotta feel for the dude...it's a tough way to live.

I love watching Bubba play golf, but the guy is just so tightly wound, he may never realize his full potential. Give him a 'lude and he may lap the field.

Bubba is probably a genius looking for a proper venue to display all that goes on in his noggin. He is talented and tormented by that same mind.

Yeah, I'm a bit suspicious of his down to earth side as well. Cause he can also be a whiner, and he's simultaneously talking Jesus and wearing 500k watches and driving pink AMG's....

Interesting dude, and like I've said before there's days I really like him and other times he seriously annoys me.
