I have ADD and it has it's challenges.
I can either have amazing focus, or none at all. And it appears to be completely random, not something I can switch on or off.
Bubba has said that he likes to play fast, and doesn't like waiting.
That's his method of trying to retain some level of focus.
His on-course aloofness is likely an attempt to stay in the zone.
It's been mentioned that some players (forget who, but it was fairly recently) would intentionally slow down on the course to try and throw him off of his game.

He was in Golf Digest a year or two back and he made a comment about ADD.
"I don't know much about this ADD thing, but I might just have it."
His wife responded with "Oh yes, you DEFINITELY have it!"

I agree I think the announcers even mentioned that Bubba's mind races so much that part of his caddie's job is to keep him focused on golf. They said Bubba has never been tested for ADD but his mind is certainly wired differently.

But as Johnny Miller stated, there is some genius in Bubba's game also - he plays like pretty much no one else - and many people of unique abilities tend towards non-conventional ways of thinking.

Actually, I am not sure that it is ADD or ADHD. I have a few friends that are manic-depressive (bi-polar) and I think he might suffer from a mild case. That would explain his mood swings and self-loathing at times then happy and carefree at others.

After friday at PGA 2014 - and the long driving refusal, i had the same thought. We might be getting ahead of ourselves here though...

Well, I have always pretty much liked Bubba. He wears his heart on his sleeve that's for sure. I know Friday was not particularly a good day for him, and I hope he can learn to curb his comments.

He does need to represent Ping better as well. I have the new G30 driver on order. Not only that, I'm considering the G30 irons. So, his comments yesterday, if I'm Ping, make me not too thrilled. “Water on the clubface. Water on the clubface, bro. I’ve got no chance,” he said, along with some other comments. Well, I play sometimes with dew on the clubface, or after a short rain with water on the clubface. Should I be concerned that G30's will not perform well under wet conditions? Everyone out there had water on the clubface. Bubba just has a way of verbalizing what he's thinking. The stuff seems to come out of his lips before his brain can stop it from escaping

Anyway, I hope things get better for him as this tournament goes on, and as he continues his career.

Bubba travels to the beat of a different drum. We can call that neurotic or quirky or whatever. To me, "He can make a cup of coffee nervous". The problem for me with how I view him, and not that he cares, is he is ready to blame everything or everybody else for his errors. It could be the caddie or it could be, as was the case yesterday at the PGA, the rain on his ball. Now, his caddie cleaned the ball before it was teed up. The clubface was wiped as well. In psychology parlance that is called projection, a defense mechanism. He can't accept it was HIS fault. We all have these little idiosyncrasies, Bubba has them to the extreme. The statement at the press conference where he was asked about how he was perceived by the public for not participating in the long drive contest is another example of weird thought processes. He said he just reads and follows the Bible. What does the Bible have to do about the question? We all judge sports figures at a higher level than the regular person we meet on the street. Personally, I can't root for the guy. He is too quirky for me.

He is really not a bad guy. I was in whole foods in Scottsdale the fall before he moved to Florida . I came around the corner and we basically bumped in to each other. He beat me to the apology for us bumping in to each other. We shook hands and stood and talked for a few minutes. He was down to earth and nice to everyone that recognized him that stopped to say hi. His on course antics and frustrations often get the best of him and as a result he says or acts in a manner that he is not proud of. His public apology on twitter for his behavior on course yesterday at least shows he is conscious of where he needs improvement in his life.

He is a fun headcase to watch. What makes him crazy, makes him great. Annnnd a two time Masters Champion, a Cinderella story.
