Ebay Trolls

I am selling a set of irons on E-bay I have invested ALOT of money into (with no hope I'll get my money back on them). I was completely honest with my description, disclosing all available info I have about the clubs. I posted detailed pictures. These irons were built by a local trusted club-maker. His work is top-notch and he is one of about 28 certified master club-makers in the U.S. Bottom line: he does good work and I 100% trust him. I have nothing to hide with these clubs and I am asking a reasonable amount.

So I get a message from "xxxxXXXX" late last night: "I see the step pattern is off on the 4 iron is it the same shaft or just put in wrong?golf pro."

What the h*** does that mean?? The clubs were built as I asked, with brand new R11 TP pulls. They were not altered one bit. And this idiot assumes I myself did it and did it wrong. Then he makes a smart-azz comment.

Why do these trolls feel the need to bother honest people trying to sell quality stuff when there's so much crap on Ebay? Just pisses me off.

Where did he assume you yourself did it ?

And what's the smartass comment ? Do you mean "golf pro" ? I don't even know what that means.

Yeah I guess he assumes I did it. I didn't get the "golf pro" comment either. I answered that I'm no club-builder but I know enough to get by.

I guess I should just add him to my block list and move on. I never really think about doing that, called me old-fashioned. Sad thing is the guy has been on there for 11 years and has lots of "good feedback" (so do I). Makes you wonder....

Checked out the irons i dont even understand what he meant about it. Nice looking clubs though!
[/quote]

I think I kind of figured out what he's talking about... On the picture showing the grips and shaft stickers, starting from the right, pick a step on the shaft... Start going left, and you will see the steps incrementally get higher, until you get to the 4i, and there, it falls off the pattern...

You get all types on that auction site. I had a guy accuse me of shill bidding on a set of irons. After I told him he was crazy and wrong he said he still wanted the clubs really bad. I told him to not bother bidding on them because I wouldn't sell them to him....kinda already forsaw problems with the guy. On a brighter note, I just sold a set of irons for full asking price to a nice guy on Craigslist with zero problems.

I never really noticed but looking at the iron now that is true. Doesn't change the actual stepping though.

Like Scuds said above, I don't think it's a dumb question. He probably could've left off the "or just put in wrong" comment, but I think you're reading a bit too much into his comment. If the clubs were built by some top-notch builder I'd probably be asking why the 4-iron shaft band is out of whack when compared to the others, also. Not a dumb question when they are built by someone who knows what they are doing and you're thinking about spending your money on them.

Not sure what the "golf pro" at the end is unless that was the member's name.

Are you sure the actual stepping isn't off. If you look at the 10th picture you can tell the step between the grip and shaft band goes up incrementally, then when it gets the the 5-iron it looks like it starts going down instead of continuing to go up, like Scuds said. Seems like that's more than just a misplaced label. I'm no club building expert, but I can see how someone could possibly assume there's a long extension or something in the 4-iron shaft. Kind of appears the same with the 3-iron unless that's just because it's a different flex.

And I'm kind of surprised you didn't even notice the shaft bands being off until someone here mentioned it. As nice as your pics are and as hot as you were about the guys comment, I would've thought you already knew about it.

The 3i is S300. The X-1's should not be off at all. The bands were on them when I bought them, I bought them as a set 4-PW from Ebay, same guys I bought 2 sets of X-1's from that are in my Mp 60's and MP 14's. :scare2:

They are a backup set for me so I have never really checked the labels much, I assume they are correct. I've had them sitting in a bag since I had them shafted and hit them less than 7 times, 2 range, 5 rounds.

PM'd it to you.

Thanks. Just looked.

The step on that 4 iron DOES look odd. Looks like too much was cut off the tip and too little cut off the butt - then again I'm not a clubmaker.

But that does look odd.

With all of the crap and fakes sold on E-bay I would assume he is just trying to protect himself and ask a question about something he is interested in.

So this guy asks why the steps are jacked up on the irons you're selling (and they do look jacked up from the photo) and you get defensive, take it as a personal insult and call him a troll?

Well here's the deal guys. Took the 4 and 5-iron by the club-builder today and he said it appears that the 4i was tipped a half inch, although he did not do it (I must have bought them that way?). Anyway, he advised me to alert the bidders and let them know in full disclosure. So far, I have one bidder and have sent them a message and let them know that it will play different than the others and I will also alert the winner and give them the option not to buy them. I'm working on editing the auction now.

I guess my issue now with this guy is not THAT he asked the question, its how he asked it. Again, I am not a club-builder and don't claim to be. I know enough to get by, and in this case, not enough.

Thanks for helping me out with this fellas, I'm working to rectify the situation. I know some will respond with comments I shouldn't have reacted that way, but I was very nice in my response, just a little harsher on GWRX (internet bully?).

I'm not out to hose anybody and if its an honest mistake on my part, I will definitely rectify it. I guess its good that guy asked me that question and I came to the right place to answer it.

A bit of an oversimplification. I didn't appreciate the nature in which he approached me when I clearly stated in the auction I did not do the work myself. It was his attitude, not his question, I took more issue with.

The only steps in question are the 4i steps.

If the 4i was off by a half inch, the steps in relation to the 5i would be identical. Instead, they are a half inch shorter than that. That would equate to an inch hardstepped instead of a half inch.

Also, unless those Titleists were bored for .370" parallel shafts, they would not be tipped.

Based on what you have written, I'd challenge your clubmaker. I know you have stated that he's one of the best in the nation. You state that he did the work, and he is denying doing the work?

Something isn't making sense here...

By the looks of the pic above, it does appear the step pattern is not consistent. The buyer has a legitimate question. I applaud you for selling quality equipment. However, just as you are selling quality equipment that you invested good money in, a buyer should want to assure that they're getting quality equipment as well. Ebay and BST offer buyers and sellers to communicate questions and answers to assure a smooth transaction. I'd much rather my buyers ask me questions before they pull the trigger and end up buying something unexpected.

This is hard to judge on the internet, I try to never assume a specific tone or attitude with any comments because I usually end up wrong. EXCEPT PEOPLE WHO TYPE IN ALL CAPS WHO ARE OBVIOUSLY SCREAMING EVERYTHING THEY TYPE. haha.

Kudos for the full disclosure. Try not to let things get under your skin, especially on the internet where you don't have the ability to see/hear how someone is saying something.

Not really an oversimplification at all. Someone asked a valid question, you for some reason didn't like the question (which they were right about) and came on here calling him out.

More and more these days I see people defend their actions with "I didn't like his attitude"....Well when youre wrong in the first place maybe the other persons attitude isnt the issue....
