I didn't get the chance to play the Heather, I will play it this summer. I actually liked Alpine, it was a fun course. And yes, I love Little Traverse Bay.

Wolf Creek was simply amazing! Apart from that the others are all just good solid desert golf courses!

Obviously my list is limited. The Ross Memorial and Little Traverse I just played, (along with Birchwood). They were awesome, and in great condition. The Woods 9 at
Birchwood is probably the prettiest I've ever played, it looks like what I imagine Augusta must.

Preston Trail is great for the course and the whole men only golf only atmosphere. The DCC is just a ton of fun
In it's rennovated form, and will be tricky in the fall when they can cut the bent greens short.

Duke University Golf Club

I lived in Chapel Hill, NC for a little bit in 2007 and much preferred Duke to UNC's course, even though both are fantastic. That probably had a lot to do with Duke being easier to walk.

 

Heritage Golf Club, Atlanta

Just played here for the time this week. The Frog is generally regarded as the best public in metro Atlanta, a Fazio design, but I played there a few years ago and while the layout is expectedly nice, it was actually pretty easy. I think its 73.8/138 is way overstated, while Heritage's 74.3/146 seems pretty accurate. VERY difficult driving course.

 

I'm sure there are a number of courses I played in high school and college that I've forgotten, but one notable course that doesn't make my list is Pinehurst #4. I was able to play there in 2007 for like $30 because a friend of a friend was part of their apprenticeship program (naturally, the direct friend was also there).
