Dented clubhead?

WOW!

Today at my high school golf practice a good freind shows up with his driver that had a small but noticable dent in the back of it. Because I can't stand blemishes in my clubs (who on this site can??) I started freaking out asking him what happened and what he was going to get as a replacement... he said that it didn't affect performance at all and he shrugged it off. My question is could that affect performance? I've got an old driver that I wouldn't mind loning to hinm for the season if it will help him do better. It is super small and is kind of on the bottom near the ASP plate (TMag driver).

I had a Orlimar Trimetal 9.5* 450cc driver. I bought it at a thrift shop for maybe $5. It had a dent just below the hosel about 3/4 inch in diameter when I bought it. That driver rewarded me for taking it home by being an ever faithful good driver. I even made fun of the dent by painting it pink and then putting a bandaid partially over the dent. It was a good club.

Unfortunately, one day I noticed a rotten sound on my drives and they just did not go as far as normal despite my feeling like I made a good swing. When I got home I noticed a crack across the face. I don't really think the crack was related to the dent. But I don't have the swing speed to crack drivers. So I don't know..

Anyway, that's my story. My advice: If your bud is confident with his club, don't wreck his confidence by bugging him, no matter how well meaning (or even how necessary) - confidence is the most important part of a golf swing. He already knows you have a backup for him if necessary, so let that be a basis for a good friendly golfing relationship.

A dent like you describe is NO problem what so ever...other in the head of club ho's.

It should not affect performance. I had a similar story. Spent a ton of money on the new cleveland ti 3 wood when they first came out. The day it arrived at my local range, it started to rain so I decided to go under a covered stall since I couldn't wait to hit it. First swing...BANG...hit the dang stall post and dented the back of the club. Couldn't return it as it was my fault Drove me crazy, but realized that it didn't affect performance. Still in my backup bag and still goes a mile...when I actually hit the ball first, LOL.

Well I've got a G5 in the garge and if it can help his game (even if it's just mental) I'd like to do that. He is part of my team so I have no problem helping him out.

Thats how it happened to him except he hit a post on his takeaway. Thankfully he has a slow takeaway as it could have been much worse!
