Driver Change? 910 D3 to what?

(legit or ho? new game for us)
Either this place is dangerous or I need to think about changing drivers...I think I'll invent a new game for such questions -- legit or ho?

So, I bought a Titleist 910 D3 last summer in RIP 60 S based on one demo day session -- just basically hit the heck out of it and thought "this one's for me!" I had never been on a launch monitor. Just one outdoor session. Took me a few weeks to get used to the new driver -- fought some hooks and low ball flight (I normally hit it pretty high). When I hit it, it went. Got on a launch monitor with it this spring. Switched shafts to the MFT Kai'li in Stiff, added .75* of loft and have it as open as it will go. Ball flight higher, looked better. Average about 285 (occasionally close to 300) as measured by laser range finder on flat holes.

But, if I'm a little off, well, you know. So I'm at the shop where I got my irons fitted and just for fun hit an i20 x-flex and then an Adams Fast 12 LS Fubuki Stiff. One of the guys says step over a bay and let's see what the monitor says. Monitor says for the Adams:

100 mph swing speed
150 ball speed
1.5 smash factor
13* launch
2400 RPM

Average 270 total, but more consistent. Fairly low dispersion. Mostly straight pushes and fades (and I fight a hook). Kid even said it basically eliminated the left side. Ultimately, I want as easy to hit a driver as possible. I do not need to work the ball...just need a fairway finder. 270 is quite alright with me if it's not OB left! Probably want neutral or fade biased.<br class="Apple-interchange-newline">
So, legit to go for a fitting (I'll include my current set up) or just GolfWrx induced ho'ing? (I've always had buyers remorse on the quick demo day decision without a fitting session, but when I hit it, it's fun!)

Considering:
i20
Fast 12 LS
G20 (if it can be had "open")

What other drivers should I consider if indeed this is "legit"? good.gif

Same boat here. Love my D3 but just for the heck of it want to try something else. When you nut one with the D3 it almost feels like hitting an exploding marshmallow. Looking for something that has similar feel, but have yet to find anything.

If you want something close to the d3 the d2 would seem like a great choice.
I'm sure I sound like a smart a$$ but that's just my 2 cents
[/quote]

My guess is he will spin the D2 way too much. I was one a LM yesterday with my D3 which I had spin around 2100 on average... I have been having issues hitting the thing too low so I was hitting different shafts, etc. nothing was really helping. So I tried the D2. Spin immediately went up to 3800, 3700 and 4100. The D2 also felt totally different.

I need to figure something out because I am launching my D3 at 9*. My ball speed is 160, spin was consistently between 2100-2400.. But again it's launching so low. I also hit a 10.5* set to 11.25 and it was still launching low. My swing is f***** right now

250 carry, 270 total would be just about perfect for 100MPH.

But 1.5 smash factor ? That is DEAD SOLID PERFECT. Consistently ? Damn, I can't get that on any SINGLE shot !!!

Launch at 13 is just fine. But at 2400 RPM your spin rate is actually a little bit low. Probably should be around 2800 or so for max carry/distance.

Numbers aren't everything though. Getting the numbers just right is one thing but being able to consistently CONTROL the ball is something else.

Anyway, LS12 and I20 are both low spin heads. I believe the Adams 12 (non-LS) and the G20 spin a little bit more so one of them MAY work better for you. But remember, ideal numbers are one thing but hitting the ball where you want is quite another.

Good luck. :good:

I've just sold my 9.5 d3 and replaced it with a razr hawk tour. Better feel, better dispersion, longer, more

I play a 910 D3..... two hottest drivers I hit at a recent demo day were the Fast 12ls and Razr Fit... RBZ is also hot but sounds/feels horrible to me....

I was excited to hit the RBZ Driver. Took it out, after 3 hits put it down. Feel and sound is horrbile.

Hard to beat the sound and feel of my MP650 - Eventhough I cant wait to get my hands on the i20 Driver.

Actually just replaced my D3 with the Cobra ZL Encore. It had great feel for me anyway, and the i enjoy the muted sound. What sold it was the dispersion. Twenty balls I hit with it on the launch monitor could have been covered with a King Size bed sheet. I also tried the AMP, Nike VRS, I20, fast 12 LS (hook machine) and a few others but kept coming back to the Encore. It had to go home with me>
Tried it on the course the other day and for me it is like a point and shoot driver.
Happy with the Honeymoon phase so far.

Spin was what caused the Titleist rep to put me in the D3.

Good advice on not getting totally enamored with the numbers. I think the monitor can get you to the final two or three, then a range session or two with demo clubs can get you to "the one" (or at least the one for a while).

Ditto about the Low Spin heads. You should go back and try the Adams F12. See if that gets your spin up just a touch.

I do love my F12LS though. I kicked the D3 to the curb after hitting the LS.

I will say it again, if he is spinning the D3 at 2400, he is going hate the D2. 2400 rpm is right where he wants it. The D2 will put him close to 4000 I bet.

The difference in spin rate between the D2 and D3 (IIRC) is only about 500-600 rpm.

Plus--with the difference in launch angle between the two heads----the OP could step down to a lower lofted head. Thereby reducing his spin rate, but still enjoying the advantages of a high-lauch, forgiving head design.

Or get fitted for a shaft that will reduce the spin rate.

I'll try a 910 D2, but I suspect spin might be an issue.

I like the looks of the Cobra Encore, too. I did not like the looks of the Cleveland Classic.

I actually tend to like a little more triangular head vs. "classic pear shaped".

Stopped at GG just to look at them all. Definitely like the i20, AMP and Fast 12 LS. Razr Fit caught my eye along with RBZ Tour.

Be prepared you may not find anything better than the D3, still the real deal all day long. I'm a HO so of course I needed both the Razr Fit and i20 and they are sweet but I'm not sure either is actually superior in any way to my D3...BB

Definitely no problem when I'm swinging well, but was wondering if there isn't a driver/shaft combo that's a little more forgiving for the inevitable "off" day...

If you want forgiveness I20 is more forgiving than D3, G20 is forgiving all day long, RBZ Tour marginally more forgiving but sounds horrible, Razr Fit definitely more forgiving across the face.....

I'm gaming a D3 and also toy around with my FT Tour and Razr Hawk Tour... much like Big Ben they are all missle launchers but I don't know if any of the drivers mentioned is superior to D3..... it's got it all.... but I still do enjoy the feel of a center punched BOMB off the FT Tour more than anything out right now.... I guess I'm one of the few who love that composite/forged iron feel.....

I'd say Razr Fit or Fast12LS from the new stuff I've hit as it's pretty close to D3 but maybe a tad more forgiving and tad hotter.

Good Luck....

I just recently got the cobra AMP after initially going to a demo day specifically to try the RBZ which i didnt like, felt terrible. AMP feels awesome off the face, something that I think all recent taylormades lack. I got stock shaft too because I like the high launch, but it also has a high spin rate which may not be for you..but if you find the right shaft and can get over its appearance (I love it now, no one else has this orange beast) i would recommend the AMP, makes an awesome crack off the face and it feels great but as I said if you are after fairways may not be ideal for you.
