Pine Dunes Resort and Golf Club

Has anybody played Pine Dunes in Frankston, Tx recently? Heard it gets great reviews but wondering if anybody has played it recently and what kind of condition it is. Also, has anybody stayed at the lodging there and is it pretty nice? Can't find pictures anywhere.

The lodging is adequate and frankly what I expected: its not a five star resort, its East Texas. I haven't played recently but the course was in good shape last spring when I was there.

Thanks, appreciate the response. My expectations aren't too high on the lodging but just curious if it is nice and clean. Would like to bring my wife and young son with me to go out there for my birthday. In my mind I have it being something like you would find at a Best Western. Is it a comfortable spot to hang out if you were a non-golfer? My wife is just wondering if it would be a nice play just to hang out in the woods, read a book, grill out in the evening, etc.

The place was nice and clean. The rooms are arranged around a courtyard where we drank a few beers and hung out after golf.

I played the course last month and will be playing again this Saturday. It's in very good shape.. Fairways are nice and lush and the greens are fast, undulating and brutal. They're the best greens I've played on with the exception of Whispering Pines in Trinity. I can't vouc for the lodging but the course is great.

Played it a year ago and enjoyed the round but can't speak to the current condition. If you're driving from DFW, I would recommend taking a look at Garden Valley. Played 36 there this past weekend and it's in the best shape I've ever seen it. It's a surprisingly tough layout and their greens are running VERY fast right now. If you put yourself above the hole...well I'll just say that I feel sorry for you.

I played it a few years ago (I know, not helping with your request for recent) when I was at home visiting my family (born and raised in East Texas). Great course but the pace of play that day was horrible. I was just telling a friend back home that we need to go back out there next time I'm around for a visit.

Garden Valley is another that I try to play when I'm at home. I always seem to shoot a good score there.

I think they allow groups of 5 pretty regularly.. Me and another WRX'r played 36 there in March and the 2nd 18 took forever because we were behind a group of 4 that was behind a group of 5.

I played it the weekend before last and it's still in really good shape. Something is going on with the first 2 or 3 greens. They putt the same as all of the others, there is no problem there, they just don't look right. Other than that, everything is great.
