Where do you book your tee? - Houston Area

For the best rates?

Looking at trying out some different golf courses in and around Houston, but wanted to see where everyone books their tee for the best Rates?

I used to be able to find discounted green fees online a couple of years ago but those are all gone now.

There's a good site called onetwotee.com that I've used in the past. It's great, and it seems like the kid doing it donates some proceeds to charity.

I walk when I play. I too signed up for those online e-specials and receive regular emails from various courses offering discounted rates. I guess the discounts are for the cart fees.

Take Blaketree National for example, their normal Weekend rate before 2pm is $45 to ride. $25 to walk. I received 2 emails, one offering a Sunday tee time for $32 and the 2nd email was a $10 off coupon to help save on gas. I figured, that would be $22 to play. I called them, they said you can't combine coupons and the $32 rate is from an online specials place. I told him I'd like to walk and asked how much it would cost if I wanted to walk 27...bascially more than 18...he said $25 all day long to walk. I'm not complaining about a $25 weekend fee, I'm just saying it would be cool if courses offered discounts to walkers too.

So I guess the morale of the story is walkers don't get discounts. Maybe I'm old school, didn't golf start without carts? I'm just saying it would be cool if they offered discounted rates to walkers. I'm also old school in regards to the course setup, it's nice when they have walking bridges in the middle of the fairway to walk over hazards. It's not my fault if I can hit the ball down the pipe, yet have to walk way over to the cart path just to get over the creek. It seems like old school courses will have the concrete path for the carts, but they will also offer a wooden bridge or some sort of walking bridge for us walkers.

I know some will talk about pace of play with walking vs cart riding, but it seems to me the majority of the time I'm waiting on them. There are few examples that I've seen of 2 guys/gals riding together that stroke it down the middle every time and play the course at blitz speed. Normally what I see are a slicer and a hooker riding together zig-zagging down the course. Since they have to zig-zag they spend a lot of time looking for their ball since they took their eyes off it to find the 1st shot person's shot. I hit my ball and walk directly to it, over and over, no zig zaggging. The only time I've not been able to keep up with carts are on courses where there a long distances between holes.

I definitely agree. I'd definitely drive out to play Blaketree sometime, but it's a long ways and carpooling would be nice.

Golfnow.com...if playing as a single you can get outstanding rates. Played The Falls in New Ulm for $15 a couple of weekends ago at 3 pm. This course used to charge $70 pp. You may have to drive a bit, but its worth it.
