San Antonio Golfers

What golf courses would you all reccommend to try? What are your bang for the buck courses? Also any groups here that go golfing together? I normally just play alone since not most of my friends are avid golfers like me. I try to go atleast once a week or so.

I've always liked Olympia Hills in Universal City, twilight can be had for less than $40. Always in great shape & very challenging.

I like going cheap. Ten bucks and you can walk 9 at Willow Springs, which I think is a pretty nice course. Woodlake isn't as pretty, but isn't as crowded for the same price. Smaller 9-hole executive at Windcrest is great practice because it's scary narrow.

As for finding groups.... let me know if you find one. I've had no luck finding playing partners.

What about the best two public courses overall in San Antonio? I'll be dropping by the (Austin) area in November for the race and want to get some golf in as well. (Staying in San Antonio)

Also, best Austin courses could work as well.

Ideally, I'd like to get 2 San Antonio courses in and 3 Austin courses.

I did some further research in San Antonio, can you help me pick 3 out of 6?

I'll be down at the end of October. My wife has a conference at the JW Marriot. Does anyone know what they charge guests of the hotel to play the TPC courses there?

Played the Norman layout (TPC Oaks) last week for $125.00 which was twilight rate (after 3pm). Greens were slow and intermediate rough was high. Overall very enjoyable.

I play most of my golf at Sonterra (private) but I like Canyon Springs quite a bit (back 9 is a lot of fun). Played the bandit once and enjoyed it. Same with the quarry. If your traveling between SA and Austin, you might want to check out River Crossing in Spring Branch and Vaaler Creek in Blanco. Both cool layouts and in between the SA and Austin if you roll backroads.

I played at the republic and that place is amazing. That course was in very pristine condition. Some greens were ok though...but i have heard that place always maintains the greenest fairways here in town.

I absolutely love The Republic. Every time I come in town I try to play, and it's a fun track that's pretty and good deals can be had. Also has a consistently nice pace of play!

This is basically how our Maryland Golfers thread started out about 7 years ago (on another forum) and now we are almost to 10,000 posts and have a core group of about 12 guys who play together reguarly. None of us knew the others before we started up the thread.

Good luck to you guys, I would think with the great year round weather in the San Antonio/Austin area and the great courses, you'll strike up a bunch of regular games.

I am in San Antonio and play as much as my wife allows. I have been lurking on this forum for a couple of months finally registered this week. I shoot between 95-110, and don't have a clue as to my handicap.

I usually play with coworkers but have been looking for a group to join. I don't have a home club but have played North Cliffe, Mission Del Lago, Riverside, Cedar Creek, Willow Springs , Riverbend, Olmos Basin, Wood lake, and Golf Club of Texas.

I am actually playing tomorrow (don't tell my wife) at Golf Club of Texas. I would enjoy a round with some folks from here so maybe we can hash out details for an upcoming weekend.

Guess she found out it is raining all over the city pretty bad and should get thunder soon. :-(

Cool I just played Riverside yesterday shot a 97 steadily making my way down doing my best to shoot low 90 consistently before I buy new clubs. Still have Cleveland Quad pro woods and cougar irons.
