G15 or i15 fairway wood coming from 906F2

Hey All,

 

My trusty 906F2 is getting worn out and I am looking to upgrade. Which of last years Ping will perform the same or better? I am looking for a penetrating flight and little more forgivness. I assume that both will be more forgiving than the 906f2 as its a pretty demanding fairway wood.

 

I mainly use my 3 wood of the tee on short par 4s or when I have a low risk 255-65 yard approach from a good lie in the fairway.

 

So what are your thoughts?

 

I am not interested in any manufactorers that make white or silver heads or black face and soles:-)

i15, the g15 will spin like a top compared to your 906F2 with the shallow face.

This is a fear of mine, although I am told the g15 is relatively low spin but haven't tried it yet. For the record I hate the 906f4, I hit moon balls with it.

I am with you on the 906F4, as much as I love the 906F2 I absolutely hate the 906F4. I really don't get along with any shallow faced FW, I have yet to see one that can keep the spin/flight down. I would assume you would lose a lot in terms of distance and trajectory off the tee with a shallow faced FW coming from something mid-deep faced and low spin like the F2. But, there is really only one way to find out.

Shallow face = designed to get the ball up in the air.

Went to the G15 from a TMSF and couldn't be happier. Even with stock shaft it has a great mid flight. Extremely easy to hit, you will feel like you're cheating!

I understand the sentiment about white and silver. No black faces and soles huh? So not the Ping i20, not the Titleist 910, arguably the two best replacement for the club your wearing out. I happen to really really like both those clubs. However. In all seriousness now. Out of the two you mentioned the i15 will perform the most like the 906. I would actually recommend the G15 though because from what you said you'll be using it for, the playability factor that is a big selling point on the i15 doesn't really matter. Off the tee the G15 will probably be superior unless you tend to hook the ball. If you do hook it I would lean toward the i15. The other recommendation I would make is finding a used Titleist 909 in good condition which will feel A LOT like the 906, just lighter and hotter, and can be have for a very reasonable price gently used.

Yeah the i20 and the 910 are awesome but I hate the way the black metal looks after a half a season... 909f is an option... as for hooking, I tried the i15 hybrid and although it was a rocket my miss was a bad hook... so no hybrid for me (scared me mentally)

G15 will be money for you plus I bet you can find it for cheap.

My G15 3wd was less than $90 off the used rack in flawless condition. Such a great deal, I got the 5wd too! AND that was such a great deal, I grabbed the driver! Out the door I spent less than $300 on a whole close to new set of woods. The same guy traded in all three, and from what the shop manager days, he always upgrades his clubs right away (club ho) and barely ever plays!
