Tx Stay and Play recommendations?

Horseshoe Bay?

We are looking into planning a 2-3 day mini vacation to play some golf somewhere around Tx in a month or so (live around Houston, doesn't really matter where, just figured the Hill Country would probably be nice).
Texasgolfon.com has some pretty good deals, especially for Horsehoe Bay, their pckg looks like it will run $100 a day per person (for $300 a piece, get 3 nights and 3 rounds), only problem is that its Mon-Thurs only, but I think we can get that handled. I like the fact we get to play a different course everyday (they have 3), and the price.
If we can't do during the week, I'm looking at the Falls, I know its nice, was there about 10 yrs ago, $350 for 2 nights/2 rounds, includes w/ends though. Still like HB better because of the different courses.
One thing I'd like to find but havn't is a deal where they let you play all the golf you can play (we'd like to do 36 a day), used to see "golf all day", "play as much as you like" advertised with these deals but do not see that anymore, if we played 36 with some of these deals I'd imagine it would be close to doubling our costs, so a resort or course that would let you play all day would be great.
Barton Creek, although very nice, is more than what we are looking to pay (not worried about Spa's ect., we want to play golf all day and have a nice dinner/cold beer in the eve), anybody do this lately and have any recommendations? Any reviews for H/shoe Bay? It looks very nice.

Horseshoe Bay (the hotel) is getting a bit dated (in the rooms) but the courses are usually in respectable shape. They aren't the easiest tracks easier so you'll get a good test. Marble Falls is a great place to unwind at the end of the day. It's a much better value than Barton Creek where you get charged for EVERYTHING you do at the resort (even after paying a resort fee).

Thx for info mctrees02, I think we are going to do the Falls (if you call them their rates are cheaper than on their site) the last week in July, $199 per player (weekend), 2 nights, 2 rounds, replay's are $20 for 9/$30 for 18. I still want to play/stay @ Horseshoe Bay, we are going to try to do that later on in the year when the others can get off during the week.

+1 on the good test at Horseshoe Bay. Played a tournament at Ram and Apple in March and forgot about all the elevation changes in that area. Needless to say I got rammed (the tougher of the 2 IMO) but did okay on Apple. Smaller greens than I usually play, but both were in great shape. Didn't stay at the hotel though. Should be Africa hot in July, but you'll have fun.

A couple of other places that are off the beaten path and about 2-3 hours from Houston is White Bluff Resort--2 golf courses that have always been in great shape and Pine Dunes in Frankston, TX--great layout with very good greens. Both places have lodging and restaurant onsite and make for great weekend trips.

Tapatio Springs, outside Boerne? Nice town, good golf, not expensive, and some good tex-mex around.

I would stay away from Tapatio Springs.My wife and I played there last year and it was basically a goat ranch that was on the chopping block looking for a new owner. I would look into the Bandit near Lake McQueeny. Played the Falls last weekend it was in very good shape. Greens wre a little slow and the restuarant is only open 3 days a week on the weekend. You might look into the lake charles area. there are two excellent courses there. Grey Plantation and Louisiana National in Westlake.

I have done both Columbia Lakes south of Houston with their stay and play special - $99.00 for two and they have special replay rates / and have also done the Lake Sam Rayburn special $69.00 stay and play with replay rate specials - just a bit of a drinve from Houston but for a multiple day stay I think it is worth it
