Which OEM is best....

Rosco1216

In terms of putting out the most consistent and quality retail clubs to correct specs, etc.? Or look at it as in which OEM you can go grab off the shelf and it be closer to the equipment their staffers play on tour than the others?

Thought this could be an interesting topic..

Considering all major brands (Callaway, Titleist, Taylor Made, Adams, Mizuno, Nike, etc....) I don't think there is enough variance in quality and specs to really determine which one is best.

All of these brands have done an incredible amount of research and development.

Perhaps Callaway would have the biggest variance in quality and consistency just because they have such a broad product line.

Top of the line Adams would be the closest to tour quality. Real tour shafts with some of the best club heads.
Adams!? Really? Hardly renowned for their build quality, especially when many of their recent offerings seem to be literally falling apart.

Whatever is found in peoples' bags is my guess. Ping players will say Ping. TM players will say TM. Titleist, Cleveland, Mizzy, etc... Too hard for people to remain objective on a topic like this, but it should be an interesting one to say the least.

I totally agree with this, which is why i'm going with Mizuno.

5 Wood - Mizuno MX700, PF v2

I think of the majors it would be Ping. I was told this by someone who works in a Major Club Fitting shop, they measure the clubs. I think opne of the best would be Henry Griffits. They measure the loft and lie of every club and weigh and Pure all the shafts. As far as quality and consistency HG would beat the major brands. Some of the other smaller brands are also probably better then the Majors.

I have a few favorites in different areas. But I have a mixed bag. TItleist, Ping and Cleveland are my top 3 as far as quality OEM. TM isn't bad by any means. Just not my favorite. But the RBZ will be in my next fairway wood test.

Well, I'm not 100% about the closest, but I would say TM is the worst. I believe most pros were using the R11 DOT last year which is much different than the regular head. As for closest I would say PING or Titleist.

Looks line PING is the front runner so far! Lots of loyal PING guys. I agree with Detroit Shooter about how some of the smaller brands may have closer specs just because of limited production. Bridgestone would be on my list for sure. Mizuno is probably up there as well and I would say Mizuno is a mid-size manufacturer, at least here in the states.

I have to agree with you. Ping has a quality system(ISO Certification) that when followed, works very well. I am not a Ping fanboy but when I have ordered from them in the past, the specs were "spot on". I am currently looking at the I20 17* degree hybrid and feel very confident that the custom specs will be accurate when it arrives. ;)

Based on a quick search, I found that it's not just PING. Mizuno, TMAG,and Titleist all hold ISO 9001 (quality) certiifications in some form. It goes deeper than just that, because PING assembles their clubs in the states and can exhibit greater control over the process.

Maintaining that certification means you have procedures to ensure quality, and have accounted for your possible errors. It also means that you have an established process in place to correct errors once they've been identified.

What it doesn't mean: there will never be errors.

I had a buddy that custom ordered a set of Titleists a few years back. The 7 iron felt like it had a broken shaft under the the butt end of the grip..........turned out it was the wrong length shaft with a cardboard tube stuck in it. You talk about a mad customer, he got a full refund of course, but they lost his business forever......including golf balls.

Can happen to any company I guess.......but when you're on the receiving end it's pretty hard to cut them any slack.
