Finally took the classics out..

So after the better part of two years or so I have been meaning to take my grandfather's clubs out and play with them. And today my dad and I had the chance to sneak in 9. This was the perfect time to do so. It was awesome. I got to see the course differently than I did with my other gear. We started off on the back 9'at Rattlewood Golf Course in Mt. Airy Maryland. The 10th tee at this course features a 150 or so yard water and other assorted trouble carry. Not exactly what I was hoping to have for the first driver shot. Needless to say I hit one OB before I got one in play (actually hit the fairway). It got better after that. Everyone is right, there is just something about hitting a persimmon driver. I don't see me taking my newer gear out this summer. Just some new grips for Grandad's set and away we go. I think a 7 wood is a better idea than the 3iron as well. I've got an oldy that I picked up in myrtle beach a couple years ago. I am looking forward to playing his summer more than I have in the past. But the old Hogan Percussion Center irons are less than forgiving. I'm hoping new grips will help that. Here is my vintage WITB:

Congrats on the move to classics!! They can be a lot of fun. I've been playing them since last year and have picked up more than a few woods and wedges trying to find the right combo. My current set is in my sig.

I find that my creativity in shotmaking has gone way up since playing classics. Dropping the lob wedge and gap wedge and having a SW and PW with sharp leading edges and very little bounce or camber makes you think differently about shots inside of 100 yards. I play a lot more bump and run shots from 30 yards and in than I would with modern clubs. I find it much more satisfying to shoot a good round (sub-80) with classics than a sub-par round with modern clubs.
