HBO documentary "Back Nine at Cherry Hills"

This is an HBO doc about the 1960 US Open battle between Hogan, Palmer, and Nicklaus. I believe it originally aired several years ago, but it happened to be available on HBO on demand this month so I just got a chance to see it. Highly recommended for any fans of golf from this era. Most of the doc is a profile of the 3 golfers and their childhoods, etc. Quite fascinating with some great interviews and old footage.

 

Just a heads up to anyone with access to HBO on demand, who didn't see this the first time. Well worth the 60 minutes, HBO did a great job as they usually do with their sports documentaries.

Back Nine at Cherry Hills is a great documentary. I've tried to find a copy to buy for a couple of years but HBO isn't selling so far as I know.

Thanks OP; watched it this morning, awesome w/ plenty of interviews w/ Arnie, Jack, Dan Jenkins, Ben Hogan's niece & many other notables. IIRC, it's listed as "1960 US Open" once you drill down into sports documentaries & is available through 7/16.

They showed the original broadcast of the final round of the 1999 PGA on GC yesterday. I thought it was much more interesting than the packaged highlight shows they usually have.

That is the best golf doc I have seen. I love when Arnold Palmer is talking about Ben Hogan asking how he got into the masters. Arnold Palmer is an amazing storyteller. I could listen to him tell stories for days. I read online a while back that the visor he was wearing during the final round and threw when he won was returned to him recently by the kid who caught it.
