Why do I sometimes lose it right?

I played a draw/hook for a long time. About a year ago, I successfully changed to a gentle push fade with all clubs. I much prefer the fade, but once in a while, I'll hit a few big push slices with the driver. Based on the videos in this link (http://s1222.photobu.../dd494/whitemb/), does anyone have any ideas about why?

Thanks

If I had to take a guess and comment on one thing - it looks like your hips slide a bit too much on your downswing. This can cause a couple of things that lead to a push/slice. I'd try and keep those hips in the same place throughout your swing. Think more about rotating your hips than sliding them through from back to front.

Ball way forward and upper body slide toward the target.

Interesting - thanks much for the responses.

Looks to me like you play the ball off the front of your left foot. I do the same thing. If my feet are just a little too far apart and I over swing slightly I fall off the shot, meaning instead of finishing through the swing you lean back off the shot leaving the club open a little at impact and hitting the ball right. When I hit a slice I can feel myself in a bad position. At that second after impact I know exactly what I did.I feel like im leaning too far back off the ball and slightly off balance. The feet being too far apart is probably the main cause when I hit one right. The feet being too far apart puts you in a bad position for a good turn through the ball.

Hope that makes sence.

Your camera angle is making the ball look farther forward than it really is so take any advice about ball position with a grain of salt. Then stop for a second and think about your miss. If you truly normally hit a push fade and once in a blue moon you hit it farther right than normal what would cause that miss at impact? Then think a little farther back and think about what would cause you to get into that position at impact. ( your second video holds a clue even though its from a bad angle as well) It could easily be something as simple as your tempo being off or you are getting the club stuck behind you. Check your alignment just to be sure you are lining up properly. This can cause fades to turn into slices and draws into hooks.

Actually, i think the camera angle is fine. Did you notice the club shaft laying on the ground? It is in line with the camera and pointing outside his left foot.

Club seems really flat in the back, even for a driver. You are not then doing the common mistake by lifting and coming from out to in to hit the slice. I think you are swinging to much out to right field and it looks like you try to rescue it with the hands at impact and flip it. Your path is going in to out and the face is open to the path so you are going to get a big block.

You need to swing from the inside, but the club must exit left after contact. You need to get the hips and the core way more open at impact to help really get that swing exiting left after contact. Get a hula hoop, put it on the ground and lean it back like it's your swing plane. At the very bottom of the circle is the ball. Notice how the club will come from the inside strike the ball at the bottom of the hoop and then immediately exit left. This has to be pivot driven and not a armsy crossover flip to get the hands left. Only with a a proper pivot can you get the plane going back left correctly.

So you suggest when filming or analyzing someones swing it is best to do so from a prone position?

Thanks again for all the responses. I really appreciate the help. I'm currently a 5 hcp and, in 18 years of playing, my only real "lessons" have been to read Penick's Little Red Book and Hogan's 5 Lessons. I apologize that the camera angle is not better - just an iPhone leaning against a ball bucket.

It seems like the common themes in most of the responses are (i) that I've got the ball too far forward in my stance and (ii) that I slide my hips/upper body rather than rotating them during the downswing and through impact.

Today, I went to the range and worked on rotating my hips more and sliding them less by sticking a driveway marker in next to my left foot and keeping my hips from bumping it. Once I got a feel for the move, it brought my ball flight a little left and down but allowed me to retain my fade - all good things. It also made me hit the ball a little out on the toe, so I worked on moving it a little back and closer in my stance. Will take some more time to groove this, but I think I am on my way.

Thank you all for taking the time to watch the videos and shoot me suggestions!
