wolfpack
Tiger hit that 5 iron out of a gulley, with a 3 foot mound right in front of him.. 200+ yards, Then Bubba CUT a 276 yard 3 iron that landed pin high, but rolled off the green to the left. In 56* weather. I thought i was delirious, I had to back up the DVR 5 times. wolfpack
Those were two of the best shots i have seen all year... when the camera panned around Tiger and showed how high that mound was.. it was knee high, i was thinking how I couldn't get an 8 iron over that, it was nearly 3 feet in front of him. The 3 iron by Bubba was just ridiculous, all carry. spitfisher
Like a Tyson punch, like a pedro Martinez fast ball hitting the mitt, a Karch Karily spike or a Ray Bourque slapper, the sound is unmistakable and different from their peers. I was lucky enough to walk 18 with tiger, during tournement play inside the ropes in 2001 often 10 feet from him doing shot-link, every shot was flush, even the ones that he may have missed. I might make that sound 3 times in an entire round.

I've got a friend who was on the Cal golf team in the 90's, he has seen Tiger a bunch in person. When i asked him if he noticed how his shots just "sound" different.. he just started shaking his head... then tried to tell me about it, but was searching for how to describe the sound. He finally goes, "dude you just have to hear it in person.. it's not real" Tiger kind of lost that sound off his irons for a while, but whatever he is doing with his balance and swing these days, he is compressing the s$%t out of the ball. Iggypop
Standing right next to Tiger when he hit a long iron from the tee at St Andrews in 2005 is something I'll never forget. I didn't see it but I heard it. The reason I didn't see it is because it was so hot off the club I couldn't follow it, but the sound was like no other and I've been to a lot of golf tourneys & I love Faldo, Norman, Monty, Westwood et all but Tiger on form is tops. Looks good so far this week!
SurfinTurf
At PGA events you can sometimes position yourself down range 50 or 100 yards and practically underneath thier drives. I think this is where you really experience that whistle cuase the ball is still climbing. I was positioned this way at the AT&T Pro-AM on I forget what hole at MPCC. The tee was elavated and we were directly underneath their ball flight. Thick coastal air and all the drives were whistling like MAD. It definitley woke you up. Just awesome. You can also experience this at your local Muni. Just ask your big hitting friend if he wouldn't mind hittng drives over your head.
