"Illegal" vs. "against the rules"

Splitting hairs here but it kind of bugs me when people(me included) use the term "illegal" for club use, etc. Nothing is illegal(against the law....civil law) when playing golf, well unless you wrap your club around someone's head. Now "against the rules of golf" might be a better term. Feel free to flame away, call me stupid, etc, etc. :)

I always was amused by Kenny Mayne when he was doing SportsCenter. They would show a football or basketball highlight and the ref would throw a flag / blow the whistle and Mayne would say: "He cheated."

I always felt like Mayne and Dan Patrick had more fun with SportsCenter than anyone else. I always enjoyed them, and miss them compared to the stiffs we have now.

...then again, every time Mayne does a story nowadays (usually about horse racing) I want to bash my own head in. He's gotten a bit weird.

a guy i know took an illegal drop on a par 3 a few years ago, and was sentenced to 5-7 years in prison. It was one of those 3rd strike things i think. Anyway, bottom line: be careful not to break the laws of golf because its serious business

He should feel good. Down here in the states, 3rd strike = life. I cringe everytime i see someone drop a ball.
