F11 Ti vs XTD

So there is a separate thread about how the XTD fairway has been discontinued. People are basically saying that because Adams has had so many supply chain and manufacturing issues with this club, they have been forced to basically prematurely discontinue this club while they renegotiate with a different manufacturer.

In light of this disappointing news, i have basically abandoned my hoped of acquiring a 14.5 degree, as the price will basically not be dropping and the price is too high, especially with the quality issues that have been much discussed. As a cheaper alternative, i have basically been considering a F11 Ti. Seems to me like they would be somewhat similar, as they are both titanium and use "velocity slots".

Does anyone care to share any opinions about the F11 Ti? Seems like the opinions a while back when the club came out was that it was really long, but some guys thought it had way too much spin, which some people attributed to the crappy voodoo shaft. I thinking about picking one up from golfsmith as they can be had for like 110 after coupon, and dropping in a VTS 75 silver. That set up would cost like 240 ish and on paper sounds like it could be pretty killer.

On a side note, i was disappointed to see Adams get bought by TM, however i can't help but think that it may be for the better. The whole XTD fiasco is really bush league and maybe a more corporate management presence is needed. The buzz around this club was unbelievable, probably the most i have ever seen. Then they basically completely mismanaged the operations side of getting this club out to the public. This club should have been a massive seller and been a major profit maker for them, and probably should have cemented their place as one the top 2 or 3 manufacturers. Instead, they have basically been forced to abandon the product and go back to square one. What a joke.

Well put sir.......could not have said it better my self. It was an absolute joke the way they could not handle their QC issues and secondly the demand. I was so intent on buying the f/wood and hybrid but luckily saved myself $600.

The f11 ti is a quality head. The stock shafts leave a lot to be desired however. You can pick them up new for under $100. Throw an aftermarket shaft in it and you have a bomber of a 3 wood. Every bit as good as the xtd, without the $300 price tag or quality issues (no weights to fall out...).

Yeah, thats exactly what i was thinking, but now that the XTD prices are dropping, its a little bit of a harder decision. Another factor going in favor of the XTD is the fact that i get along ok with the stock fubuki regular. I know i hate the voodoo and would pretty much have to swap it out immediately. Atleast with the fukuki there is a chance that it will work out. The cheap side of me really hates buying a club that i know the shaft doesn't work for me, even if the head is killer. i really have to get away from wrx for a while, im driving myself nuts with all this equipment turnover.

Just picked up a 21* xtd hybrid yesterday. Price dropped to $249.00 and had 20%off with some trade ins. If things go wrong, i just trade it or sell it off at BST.

Anyhow, I never purchased adams equipment, this will be my first. I am concerned the quality control. I hear more chatter about the fairway wood going wrong then the hybrid. I hope it get lucky. I seriously need a 220yard club and hoping Super XTD hybrid will fill my need.

Recently picked up a 16* Super XTD fairway. It replaces a (now retired) 15* TI F11.

Distance: XTD is a good 10yds longer. Freaky BIG HITS - 12 sometimes 15, out there in driver terrtory.
The F11 is not slouch though. The big hits REALLY take off, very boring and hot with good rollout.
I have an XCon Ozik 7.1 S Flex in it. It'll be up for sale when I get enough posts.

Sound/Feel: Hands down the F11 has a much more vibrante "tingly" feel: "TIIINNG" and the ball's piercing through the air.
The XTD just sort of goes "tink" but the ball goes ROCKETING down the fairway on a medium, penetrating flight that
keeps on rising way past where you think that sound is able to produce. COme to think of it, it goes way past what I thought
I was able to produce.

Forgiveness: Have to give the edge to the XTD. Still flies long on slight mishits. My mistake is a hook and I've still hit
a couple of 'squirrel assassinators" but fewer and results are further out there. I think for me it's a head shape thing
with the F11. No probems on a low tee, maybe .25 inch off the ground. But sitting on the turf, 'pure' hits happened
less frequently than with the XTD. I prefer a more compact head and the XTD head is a bit smaller to my eye.

I picked up both clubs used off Ebay. The F11 was about $80 shipped and was in GREAT shape.

Hope this helps !

My XTD experience is entering a new phase. Now that I have a driver I can trust (Cobra Amp with Motore F3 shaft), having a 3 wood that hits almost as far as my driver doesn't have great appeal, especially since I have control and consistency issues with the XTD. I actually have 2 XTD's, one with the stock Fubuki and one with a UST Mamiya MP5 shaft. With both, if I hit on the screws I can get a near driver hit, or if I don't, more ordinary distance, but occasionally a ball just flies an absurd distance. It's good for the ego, but I'm not sure if it really makes sense for what a 3 wood is usually used for. I also find consistency off the turf variable. So for those reasons alone I may move to a more conventional 3 wood setup.

I'm also into my second quality issue with one of the clubs. I returned it to Adams and got a 2 week turnaround after losing the toe weight. I hoped and assumed they would make sure that issues wouldn't occur with other parts of the club, but, nope, now the badge/weight next to the toe weight is starting to detach. I guess I could send it back to Adams, but I'm leaning toward just gluing the bottom of the club with epoxy - should take care of the issues, albeit in a messy and potentially costly way in terms of resale.

All in all, not a great experience with a club that cold have been awesome.

I lost my xtd weight today. But the best thing about this club for me is that it was 10 yards longer than my last three wood (off the deck). I don't hit it off the tee (a choked down driver is easier to hit). But the best part is that it was 10 yards longer and came down like a wedge. So really it flew almost 15-20 yards longer and just stopped. That is par five killin right there. JMO.

Hopefully Adams can turn this around. Then when I get it back I am going to epoxy the snot out of the bottom and lead tape over those weights. Problem solved.

For the last year I played a F11Ti with 70g Fubuki Tour. It was the longest 3wd I ever hit, although not the most forgiving. A couple months back I found a used XTD #1 hybrid for a good price and bought it. Smaller head than the fairway wood version, 42in shaft but still 15 deg loft. All I can say is, it is absolutely, crazy, stupid, long. Some times it feels like cheating it goes so far. It does sit alittle open I think, so it had a tendency to go right at first. Once I sorted that out I'd say its more forgiving than the F11 too. I liked it so much that I bought the 19 deg version as well. My bag now goes 4I, 19 XTD, 15XTD, driver. Played them foe a month or two and have not had any weight problems either.
