Best current model "all around" 3 wood?

Recommended Posts

So I'm currently gaming a Sonartec SS-07 with an Aldila NV 85-S shaft. I absolutely love this club, but it is starting to show it's age, and while it pains me to do it, I think it's getting close to a time where it take it's rightful spot in the bag of retired clubs that resides in my laundry room.

So I wanted to get your thoughts... Couple of things things I really like about this particular 3 wood. First, the head is smaller, and the face isn't overly deep. Second is how easy it is to hit off the deck. Off the tee isn't a big deal IMO, if I can hit it off the deck successfully, I'll just continue to tee it as low as I do an iron or hybrid. Assuming this as selection criteria, what are your recommendations? I'm open to all suggestions...

Thanks!

Coming from a Sonartec NP-99... Nike VR pro II. Check my WITB, it is a similar shape to the Sonartec but adjustable which makes it as playable as anything you will find.

This describes the Mizuno MP-650 perfectly. IMHO, it has the perfect "tweener" height. Shallow enough to be used off of the deck, but not super shallow where you aren't comfortable using it off the tee.

The feel is excellent and with it's all titanium head, it's one of the longest 3Ws I've hit.

I'm a big fan of the Adams F11 ti. I point this out every chance I get. It is now my favorite club. I find it to be very forgiving and long, and the slot technology makes the feel dynamite. Just gotta get over the appearance of the slot, but the head is a dark blue and it doesn't stand out as much as on the silver head of the F12.

I've just started playing one of these and I'd have to agree. It also has a beautiful feel that fans of sonartecs appreciate. If you prefer a shallower face the older model mp titanium is also amazing.

Adams speedline LP fits your criteria perfectly. Small, shallow head that is incredibly easy to hit off the turf. The speedline f11 is also a stellar line. I have the F11 3+ and 5 wood and love them. Although the stock shaft isn't for everyone. Priced great at $60-$100 new.

Titleist 910F here...with the adjustability, feel, look, and sound, they are so pure. Owned Exotic CB2 as well, and while long, I find my 910F to be long consistently staight and awesome feedback. RBZ and others just too bulky for me off the turf.

And, I'm a former NP-99 owner as well which I went back to TWICE after moving on to the age of adjustability. That NP-99 will always be in my all time favs category.

I hope I coincide. Just got a new f11 ti 5 wood from the bay. I am hoping for something slightly longer than my 20 deg hybrid and easier to launch fom the turf than my 15 deg wood.

I hit just about everything in my recent search for a new 3 wood, and the Razr Fit won out...longer with tighter dispersion than the i20, RBZ & RBZ Tour, TEE XCG5, and th Adams offerings. Thinking of trying an Xcaliber shaft in it...I have a feeling it could make it just about perfect...and it's a cheap experiment to find out.

It will be. I also picked up the Ti 5 wood with a stiff Voodoo(madefor) and tipped it about 1.5" ( and then put an extension in it to come out at 4 wood length) and went to the driving range today to get more familiar with it. I played on Saturday with it in the bag and hit it 3 times on par 5's without hitting it first on the range. 1st shot was a high 235 yarder that hit the green and stuck with a ball mark to repair. The other 2 shots were actually a wee bit of a mishit and each time I was amazed at how far the ball went.

The driving range today was very educational. All I had to do was to put a mild swing on it and it was very high and long. Silly long and easy to hit. It may free up a club in my bag.

I think you will like if the shaft works out for you.

Can't give you a full review, but I hit the Anser 3 wood yesterday at a fitting and was very impressed. Looks great, easy to launch and pretty damn forgiving. Felt great too. I would have bought it but the Ping TFC shaft wasn't a great fit for me and the fitter said its the only one they are offering right now

I've had and hit many 3 woods in the last few seasons. Superfast, Superfast 2.0, Superfast 2.0 TP, 910, 909, Callaway Steelhead III, Razr, R11, R11s, Burner 07 and 09 model. Hands down, the best 3 wood is the Taylormade Burner 2007. It's long off the tee, very forgiving, and easy to hit from the short stuff. Best thing about it, because it's a old model, you can pick one up for very cheap. Just because its from 2007, doesn't mean it isn't good. Think about it. I wouldn't lie!

No RBZ? Liar!

Go RBZ TOUR, XTD, 910F,RAZR FIT, TEE, MIZUNO!

If you don't like any of those god help you. Because none of us can.

Oh, and if you're only as old as the 3wood you feel. Cobra amp! The big orange pile of crap that actually performs. At least that's what they say. I wouldn't be caught dead...

This is also a good choice, especially in the TP version.

I guess if it's still $180 used it must be good. Jeez... The Stock RBZ Tour is only $229 and I just found out today you can order it with the r11s stock shaft options. Includes the RIP Phenom 70x. Nasty combo! The saddle back burner is pretty sweet though.

FYI- I got my last Sonartec from a golf show for $7. Some lady had no idea what she had and it was the last hour of the show so she said make me a stupid offer. $7 later and a quick search on eBay and I have an NP99 with a Purple Ice 95x shaft for less than $75. Do some digging if you really like the Sonartec but I can assure you on the standard setting my Nike VR Pro II looks very close in shape but without the sparkle paint on the crown
