Any early thoughts/reviews on the Ping Gorge wedges?

scanned the board and didn't see much. was thinking of picking up a set of the new wedges. wanted to see if anyone had any feedback yet.

does the finish wear off and do they rust, like the rustique's? or does it hold up. how's the spin on these grooves/milling? using rustique's now, so if anyone has a comparison to those, i'd appreciate your take.

I was about to post the same topic... I have hit them on range with crap range balls but I want to hear what actual on course users have to say before i order one. They feel amazing, look amazing, and have plenty of options but I want to hear how they react with a real golf ball

How do you like the Tour s? What wedges did you have before them? I am considering 54-60 in the Gorge and then 64 TS in the rustique since the gorge doesnt have a 64 model

Tour S was great for me. 54 and 58. i like the look of rusted wedge over the chrome one, but the new finish on the gorge wedge looks pretty sharp. I am not a high spin wedge player so can comment too much on spin...i dont play to many check shots, and dont fire over pins and try to bring them back. i am more of a drop and stop type wedge player on fuller shots. and the tour s did that for me.

also thinking of dropping the i5 gap wedge and going with the 50, 54, 58 setup on the Gorge's. I prefer chipping with my tour s 54 than my i5 gap, with the smaller profile, and i think i could get some benefit around the greens with the option of with chipping with a 50 to get it rolling quicker.

another question i have for anyone who has used the gorge, how was the CFS shafts? Did they feel lighter? my rustique's have s300's on them.

Honestly when i hit the gorge, the CFS felt great but it didnt fit me. I normally play an X Nippon shaft at 130 grams but the CFS didnt feel too light. It did produce a higher ball flight than I want but it as good as any stock shaft I have hit in a wedge. It will Probably play very similar to an S300 with a touch higher flight. I am going to have to custom order an X100 to get closer to the flight im looking for.

The finish was very appealing to my eyes which is why I like them so much, no other manufacturer offers a lefty black nickel finish anymore... until these. I hit close to 50 bunker shots with one and the finish looked new once i wiped the sand off so it must be relatively durable.

My self I like the look and will probably just get the wedges anyway. I have hit the anser irons and I am pretty sure that is my new set, but I'm leaning toward maybe one anser and 2 gorge wedges. Unless the gorges just impress me at demo days.
Anser wedges were the top of my priority list as well but upon hitting the anser compared to the gorge, I would go gorge all the way. The spinner shaft in the anser was nothing special. Gorge seems more playable than the anser.

My wedge list as of right now is short and i would put the anser in the 5th position. I am trying to decide between the Gorge and TVD vokey's but leaning towards the Gorge due to the dark finish. 3rd choice would be SM4 oil can (great look but harder feel than gorge by a lot) 4th choice would be the new 588 black (priced way too high in custom)

Anyone else with me that thinks the design other than color is the same as the Tour S. I mean its uncanny how close they look to each other.

I have I15s, 3-UW (50*). I was using an old BeCu and a newer Eye2 XG 60*. Went in and looked at the new Tours. Hmmmmm, Got a 54 SS. Took it to the range past Saturday. Seems to feel a lot like the old Tour S. Spins well, great out of the sand, and you get clean chips and pitches. The club works. Finish did not change from my one trial and I rubbed heck out of it after each shot. Have not/am not trying any of the methods for removing the finish. The club is 'perfect' for me in distance from the PW to UW to SW. 10-12 yds each club on full shots. Standard Ping grip, same shaft as the stock I20 irons. ( I have a KBS I'll probably put in the club), but the ball flight is up to you with the stock shaft. I was able to hit low runners, medium chips/pitches and very high, soft landing shots. Easy to 'flop'. I'm playing Thursday so we'll see on the course. Going late afternoon so I can drop some here and there. If it is as good as it was on the range (grass) I'm going back for a 58 or 60 TS. Sometimes I play with an Anser 56*, that is a friends, when I carry the 2 iron, but when I carry four wedges this is going to be the ticket. Will let you know if a 58 or 60 TS can kick Mr. Eye2 XG out of the bag.

I feel like wedges are the one type of club where you really don't have a good idea on performance until you take them on the course (maybe if your local club has a great practice facility, but most times that's unlikely). With driver, fwy, and irons you can get a pretty good idea on the range and with a LM. Putters you pretty much know right away. But wedges really need to be tested and have every situation thrown at them.

I tried one. Nice feel, average spin. Great looks though.

Less spin than your Vokey's SM4s?
Similar spin. I make buy a set to try on the course. I was just chipping in PGA store onto elevated green.

I bought a set, 54/60. Played 4 rounds and they're going to my backup bag & my Tour S Wedges are coming back. I hate the look of them (bought them without seeing them) & I don't like the way they sit, in comparison to the Tour S Wedge. I've noticed no increased spin. Also, I don't like the CFS Shafts in them, all my Tour S Wedges have DG Spinners.

I especially don't like the Gorge 54 out of the sand. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I like the Tour S, much better from the sand.

This is the only thing that concerns me about these wedges. Why move from KBS Tour to Ping CFS and raise the price point?
Also the Ping website clearly states that the Tour-S wedges have

[background=rgb(251, 251, 251)]"A machined face and conforming grooves allow you to manage spin from all conditions"[/background]

meaning that the USGA's maximum dimensions for conforming grooves are already optimized. So how can they add 600 rpms of spin on 3/4 shots?
