What's your Thriver setup?

Anybody using a Thriver here? High lofted short driver around 43-44" inches.

 

What's your setup? Please mention the driver model and the shaft.

A bit of an outdated topic with today's 12-13.5 degree drivers and liteweight shafts. I've seen these threads for years on the GEA.

My driver is an Adams 9088UL at 12.5 degrees with a 53g mid-kick Fuji Blur shaft at 45 inches at D2. It finds the fairways. If I want more control, it's easy to grip down when you have a couple of wraps on the grip.

I am planning on putting a nVentix Nunchuk in a Cleveland Hi-Bore XL 2 wood @ 44" play length.

I don't really call it a Thriver per se but I play a Razr Fit 11.5* with 3w Diamana Blue R flex shaft in it. Plays at 43 3/8". Slightly below a D0 swing weight which doesn't feel too light and the R flex seems to play true.
My driver swing speed is around 88 mph on avg. With this setup I normally average about 225 with this setup. Longest was around 260 on a firm day with alot of rollout. When I hit it 230-240 I know I put a good swing on it.

This week I cut down the original stock Razr Fit shaft (A flex) to where it plays at 42.75". I tried it today for the first time on the front 9 and it was a definitely a fw finder. I hit them anywhere from195 (min) with my max at 220 with a slight high fade.
The back is a little longer so I went back to the Diamana shaft which being shorter as well is also pretty reliable for me.

I tried to game the 45-46"+ drivers but at my height of 5'4" with a wrist to floor of 32" they never felt comfortable to me at that length.
44" and under is what I need.

The nice thing about the Razr Fit head is the weight (197 grams) and I think the additional weight of the adjustable hossel allows for a shorter shaft to keep the swing weight up to a reasonable amt. When i chopped all the lightweight drivers down i had last year it made the shafts play too firm for my swing speed.
dummy me didnt know about hot melt last year. wasted alot of $$$$$'s.

Mine is a Taylormade Retro Spoon (2005 model). 13 degrees at 41 inches. I hit it 230 yards about 30 feet high. If it's real dry it goes about 240. It's like hitting a Tiger stinger, but the club does all the work. It's an awesome club if you don't mind the small head.

Ping G5 13.5* w/GD PM902 at 44". Loved it, but don't have the need for it at my new course now that I'm using a R11s 3 wood on the 14* setting.

I game a Rapture 3W which has a big head, deep face and 14* loft. But I've been toying with the idea of a high lofted 460cc with a shortened shaft.

Today I will game my Integra SoooLong, a 12-degree, 400cc, square face driver. This club has a True Temper Dynamic Gold R300 steel shaft, overall length is 43".

My 3W, 5W, & 7W are also shafted with Dynamic Gold R300 steel shafts, at 42", 41", and 40" respectively. All of my fairway woods are Maltby Distance Master Pro Steel stainless steel heads.

I intend to hit at least 7/13 fairways, maybe even better!

I have a Wishon525 F/D 13 degree with an Aerotech Powercoil 65 shaft 43.5 inches tipped like a driver. I use it for tight driving holes in place of a 3 wd. I can also hit it off the deck for longer shots from the fairway. It is a real solid club.

Whats the driver swing weight with dynamic gold shaft? Did you add tip weight to the driver head?

My driver isn't a "Thriver" since the loft's on them are low. My 8° (6.8° actual loft) R11s & RBZ Tour drivers are both 43.75", the R11s has a Fujikura Motore Speeder 6.3 shaft & the RBZ Tour has a Miyazaki Kusala Black 61x. I've always liked a shorter driver for control & I don't lose any yardage with it. I also play a shorter 3wood so the transition is similar, I'm a big fan of playing a shorter driver IMO it just feels more stable as well as very consistent. The swing weights on my drivers are both d4, the R11s was hot melted to 196.5g before adding the 9g/3G MWT & the RBZ was hot melted to 206g to get it to the desired SW.

My driver weighs 397 grams, I don't know the swingweight. I think I used a 10 gram tip weight.

Yesterday, I hit 10/13 fairways with this driver!

That's one hefty club. I have a 43.5" Nike Sumo Lucky 13 with Accuflex Acculaunch 70g. The total weight is 336g. The head is 208g hot melt. Swing weight at D0.

I have one I just bought for a song from threeballs.com. Its a titleist 909 13*. It has a whiteboard 83x that after measuring today appears to be tipped an extra 1". Its the stoutest club I have swung, goes almost as far as my driver however. Im not going to give numbers but I could comfortably take driver out of the bag and just hit this thing off the tee. Hard to find room for it in my bag right now and I mighte even sale it? Like mentioned above, fun club just no real use for it.

That Rapture 3W is pretty good. I've got one with a PX in it and it's really a fun club off the tee.

Taylormade Burner Superfast 2.0 HT w/ Tour AD DI playing a touch below 44 in. Picked it up on the boards a while ago but just now playing with it. So far, not too bad. Distance is there and a fairway finder. Thinking it may be launching too high so looking into a lower lofted option.

Ping G15 13.5° hotmelted to 210 gm on an untipped Matrix RUL70 Stiff at 43 3/4"/D3. High, straight bombs if I stay patient. If I get quick it hooks hard. I carry it not instead of my 45" driver but instead of my 3w on shorter or tighter courses. Playable off the deck, surprisingly.

I'm thinking about cutting down my current driver to 44" or shorter, after demoing the BiMatrix in it at my normal playing length. Why? Because I've been KILLING the 42.75" 13 degree SQ fairway off the tee lately. I can hit that club 265 up a gnat's butt. So yeah, I'm thinking about going shorter with the driver for more control. Could care less about distance, really, as I have never struggled with it.

once bought a women's Ping G2 driver head at 15.5* and put an Aldila NV shaft in it around 44" and it was a sweet combo...was trying to match specs of an XL 2 Wood I once had that was 16* that I stuck a Speeder 757 in...wish I wouldn't have sold that one.

I have
1. Adams 9015D 10.5 UST Axivcore Tour Black 75s. It plays 45"
2. Adams 9064LS 9.5 UST Axivcore Tour Green 75s. It plays 45"
3. TM Superquad 9.5 Tour Issue Oban Devotion 6 04. Plays 45"
4. Callaway FT9 Tour Diamana Blueboard 63s. Plays 45"

I'm going to tip the UST Black shaft 1/2" to bring spin down. I haven't had a chance to hit the 9064 with the green yet. I'm not liking the Cally at the moment spits in the 4th position. I enjoy playing the TM thriver but I get a little more distance out of my Adams.

I would suggest any of these thrivers to anyone.
