I am a mid-handicap golfer that needs to hit forged because of my elbows.
interesting- why is that? sorry for my ignorance!

ok, took the extra 30 seconds to google it- the softness is easier on the joints, it seems...

Vibration from TM Burner irons going up the shaft inflamed the ulnar nerve in my elbow. I even tried sensicore in the shafts. My doctor recommended trying forged irons and the pain went away.

That doesn't sound terribly comfortable! Glad you found a solution.

Hmmm... I wonder if I can get my doc to recommend a set of G20's. Let's see the wife argue with "doctor's orders"!

As an 18 handicap, are you just starting to play golf or have you been an 18 handicap for a while and only play once a month? Are you young and have lots of time?? Reason I ask is that the iron you are looking for and the state of your game don't exactly match yet. Most 18 handicaps I've met struggle to hit long irons. In fact, most 18 handicaps I've met struggle to break 100. So I'm just wondering if you're prepare to put in the time to improve. That's all. All of rhe irons listed are great irons, but at the end of the day, you still need to put a decent swing on it to get decent results.
I have been playing golf for 5 years. Once when I used to play once a week, my handicap is 14. Now I play only twice a month. I'm young but do not have a lot of free time since I work full time. Maybe one day when I became an entrepreneur I will have more time playing golf.

I'm looking at the Cobra S2 forged. The stock shaft is too damn heavy for my liking. NS pro 1030.

Any forged irons with NS pro 950GH?
So when why don't you just get a set of the Cobra S2 and special order it with the 950GH? :stink:

Someone who is a legit 18 hcp would normally shoot right around 90. I wouldn't consider that struglling to break 100. I think you could very easily be a decent ball striker and an 18 hcp. That's really just playing bogey golf.

I don't know what type of courses you play, but most around me only require maybe 5-10 long iron shots per round. The key to becomming a better player does not lie with being able to hit long irons consistently (unless of course you are always playing very long courses or are a shorter hitter). The biggest parts of lowering your score IMO are being in the fairway off the tee, be able to chip somewhere near the hole on the first try, and be able to consistently have 2 putts or less.

Buuuutttt, I do agree that practicing to get a better swing is much more beneficial than getting new irons.

Another vote for MX300. I've played them from the time that I was as a 16 handicap (when I first bought them) until today (10 handicap) and have enjoyed them each and every step of the way. As a matter of fact, I just hit some balls at the range and was noticing that my current set is getting a bit worn. May be time to order a new set just to play and use my old set for the range. They are that sweet!!!

I put matrix studio graphite shafts in a set of the nike vrs forged and they replaced my diablo forged. They are easy on my shoulders and almost as long as the diablo but much more accurate.

Callaway Diablo Forged. They can be had for cheap on eBay, $300 new. Just picked up a set and couldn't be happier.

I love that head too but it is pretty compact. MX300 is a little larger and more confidence may come from that.

Titleist CB.

No way would I ever recommend these clubs for an 18 handicap and self admitted not so good ball striker. AP1 or maybe the AP2 but not the CB.

I'm around the same hcp as you and I can highly recomend the MX200s. Get them, strip the decals off and you have a really clean looking set of forged irons that have great feel and forgiveness. I've been playing them for a couple seasons now and they really are great clubs. I would love to play blades but just don't have the game for them.

^^^I agree with the above^^^

As an 18 handicap (playing for about 2 years but only get out 4 times per month with no practice time) I found all clubs of the forged players ilk too demanding for me. Iron are my strength, but only relative to the rest of my poor game. I finally found a good compromise in a mint set of i5s. Not forged, but they do have a playerish look with loads of forgiveness for my miss. Also very cheap and basically indestructible. Good luck with your search.

I'll second the Titleist 775-CB irons. They're a very forgiving and solid forged GI club.

I love golf
