I hate all these synthetic lines, give me 100% cotton in the heat and I'll just keep a couple of extra shirts in the bag. To change into if I get too wet.
I don't know about the rest of you, but if I wear anything synthetic I get the funkiest BO
When I wear 100% cotton or wool or silk my BO is fine and I swear my natural musk scent has chicks commenting alot, what are you wearing, YOU SMELL GOOD
Usually it's just my natural scent, so go figure, your potential mates are prewired to be attracted to your type of scent according to scientists
So to me, if you want to have your natural phermones sweating out, so a possible hottie can say WOW YOU SMELL GOOD when your musk is in the air
WEAR ONLY REAL MATERIALS
imo
I've played a lot of famous courses over the years, so I pick up 100% cotton shirts at the top courses when I play them
You wear them and meet someone they say, wow you played Pebble or Pine Valley or Pinehurst
I usually say, Yep bought it to it's knees, then just kidding, that course was a beast it kicked my A$$
LOL
So that's my 2 cents, all this synthetic dri whatever is pure marketing BS imo, and if it works, the shirt cannot asorb your sweat so you end up stinking more
At least that's my experience with these synthetics and my closet is full of swoosh's, pumas, 3 stripes, O's, and UA's and none of them work IMO
You go to deserts and you see dudes head to toe in high end cottons and silks the same stuff they wore for millennia in those parts of the world
Most of the time they are white, since white reflects the light, so if you are sweating too much, wear high end white cotton and try to keep in the shade

I don't care what brand you wear, when the combination of temp/humidity reach 120, it's damned hot! And when you decide to wear Black, Navy, Hunter Green, Maroon, etc., it's gonna be even hotter. Personally, I prefer cotton.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

I think you should experiment a little more with the different types of tech shirts made by certain manufacturers. Just because something is labeled as a tech polo, it does not mean they are all intended to do the exact same thing and feel the same way. I can tell you my experience has been that the stretch tech polo's are the best. DO NOT by tighter fitting shirts if you want to avoid feeling the heat--just common sense.
That's strange because the tighter fitting shirts feel the coolest to me. They help wick moisture away from the body in my opinion.

I wear compression shirts to work out and play basketball and they are by far the tightest fitting shirts and by far the coolest shirts as well. Much moreso than my golf shirts.

Adidas ClimaCool work best for me, keep me dry and cool on the hot days on the course. I have a nike dri-fit that is hot as ever when worn.

Polo RLX tech shirt is the best i have worn. Wait for sales on the website unless you are willing to pay $90 for them. It is like you aren't even wearing a shirt.
I've always sweated alot when I'm outside, and have always needed shirts that were light, breathable and stylish. The RLX polos are all that, and more. Incredible comfort, and the right fit. I couldn't stand normal Polo shirts because of their tight fit, but the slight stretchiness make these the perfect fit for me!

The Cutter and Buck breathable shirts are nice, too, but I prefer the RLX polos.

I have also experienced the BO problem, and have found the best solution is to wear antiperspirant as opposed to regular deodorant. The AP will actually stop you from sweating in you armpits, while the deodorant is just a fragrance, that is wicked away with the Tech shirts.

Just my two "scents" HAHAHAH!

This likely isn't the OP's problem, but I chuckle every time I see somone on the course wearing a moisture control golf shirt over top of a heavy cotton undershirt.

As for brands, I've had surprisingly good luck with many value brands like George from Wal-Mart, Top-Flite from Sears, and Champion (the latter being a Disney Golf logo shirt... $45 with the logo, probably $15 without).

I tend to sweat bucket loads and so far the only shirt that's done a half decent job of keeping me cool and somewhat dry are Adidas climalite tech polos.

The Glavin Green Ventil8 is top notch.
Very pricey but worth every penny.
The black areas of the shirt in key locations are actually vented that let the moisture out.
Galvin Green is launching a huge campaign into the North American market this year.
They are very popular already on the European tour with the likes of Peter Hanson, etc.

Heres a link to a style of shirt I personally own.

If you start looking at all their line you'll be on the site for hours, huge selection of clothing.

I have an Acuity shirt I bought at Dick's three years ago--it wears like iron and keeps me cool, even under the tension involved with trying to find the fairway from the roughs. I used to tell my friends that I had maps of the local course's roughs along with areas guaranteed to contain golf balls. I used to come out with many more balls than I went in with (no jokes please!). Acuity seems to be hard to find on ebay, though. Very comfortable, too!

Found another that seems promising: Cutter and Buck DryTec. Just received them from my company. 65% cotton and 35% polyester. Might not sweat outside until next summer but this feels like an extremely light and breathable cotton shirt, with some techy features.

I've tried Polo Golf (not RLX), UA, and lots of different Nike shirts. I've found that the Polo mercerized cotton and the new Nike stuff is the best for lightweight and dry.

Over the past two years, I've had plenty of Nike shirts and there have been three different progressions in material. The old Dri-Fit stuff that was thinnish and kind of stiff (okay in really hot conditions). Then the next phase came in a really soft but thicker version (this is probably the version you tried that doesn't perform all that well once wet). But the new stuff they released this year is both thin and soft and works really well for me at least.

I generally like fairly loose fitting shirts but not when it's hot and sticky. No matter what the fabric, something that stays fairly close to your skin is much more comfortably than a blousy or droopy cut. And by the way I am not a young or thin guy so I'm not necessarily talking the uber-tailored look that's popular among the more athletic 20-somethings.

Loose-fitting shirts when you're sweaty have two problems. They trap a lot of "dead" air between the shirt and your body and they tend to bunch up and stick to you in certain spots rather than just spreading out like they do when they're dry.

I have a few shirts by a company called "Oxford Golf" that fit like they were bespoke cut for me. I wear them as much as possible. I also have some long-sleeve polyester shirts that are the "Slazenger" house brand from Dick's. In the so-called medium size (for a 220-pound 6-footer, mind) they fit comfortably but quite closely. I find they are just about as comfortable as a looser-fitting short sleeve shirt on warm days. And I have a UK model Adidas out of some kind of stretchy stuff that fits closely.

Nikes hang off me like you wouldn't believe and even my old favorite Greg Norman brand shirts have gotten much too blousy in recent years.

The Nike Dri-Fits stick to me like crazy - I can't stand them. Switched to Under Armor this year (in particular the hard to find Heat Gear Touch) and haven't looked back. Most of the Adidas Climacool shirts work fine too, just not as well as the Under Armor. Picked up an Oakley yesterday in a Labor Day sale at GG, so I'm looking forward to trying that. I assume it will make me play like Rory.

I just bought 5 colors of the Heat Gear Touch polos....5 for $100. They were 19.99 a piece at Games People Play. Only problem is all they have is XXL.

+1. The Puma shirts with Coolmax are extremely comfortable in hot weather. I'd also recommend the newer Nike TW line -- perhaps the thinnest, lightest shirts I've ever worn.

This. My favorite shirts are my TW Polos (Nordstrom Racks often has good deals) and Puma polos with DUOSWING tech. They have the best combo of swing comfort, looks, and dry/cool.

I've had good luck with the good quality Adidas and Under Armor moisture wicking shirts. On the hot days I make sure to wear a light color. Plus I rarely drink beer and am (almost) proper weight - a couple factors that will reduce your sweating. A heart attack a few years ago gave me a wake-up call. As we survivors like to say, I'm living on a mulligan now.
