I20 Driver - G15 comparison

I might be dreaming but I seem to recall reading on WRX that the I20 driver was more forgiving than the G15 driver. Anyone else remember that?

 

I'm guessing many here have played or at least tried both, considering how popular the G15 was and the I20 is on WRX. Comparisons?

I have played both. Forgiveness is about the same, if you ask me.

i20 is a lower-spin head, deeper face. It's longer for me, but I'm sure there are others who found the G15 longer.

I found that the G15 is a bit more forgiving but for the most part they are about the same. i20 is lower spinning though so it may increase the distance for you. Both are great clubs and I don't think you'll be disappointed with either one of them.

I have both with identical set up (bb with 45") and played side by side many times. In terms of forgiveness, no significant difference. I20 is longer and has a killer muted sound and stealthy look.

Thanks guys. The last thing I want in my bag is a fickle driver (think SuperDeep or the I15). But a low spin, blacked out version of the G15 sounds very tempting.

Anyone else remember the "more forgiving than the G15" line? I think that came straight from Ping.

That line did come straight from PING, and it may be true. It may be slightly more forgiving when you analyze the design.

I'm just saying in the real world I didn't notice a significant difference.

They mentioned it is "more forgiving" because the center of gravity is lower and deeper in the head than the G15 is, IIRC.

Just another point on the low-spin, lower-launching design of the i20.

With the same shaft, and assuming you want a fairly similar trajectory... I would recommend going up a degree in loft on the i20.

I went from G15 with RIP alpha-70 9-degree, to i20 with 6M3 10.5-degree.

I'm still mad that they told me I needed a 9.5 because the 8.5 didn't launch high enough. The 9.5 is a spinner with my swing. I should really try a very low/low shaft before I ditch it. It does seem to prefer the right side of the course though. The hookers may like that. I for one do not.

Played both.

The G15 for me was more forgiving...but not as long. Tended to hit the ball higher and with more spin.

The i20 is not as forgiving...it can get away from you if you're not swinging well...but it can dole out some low-spinning bombs. Knocked a 910D3 out of the bag. I'm hitting shots with the i20 that CARRY to where the 910 (same loft, same shaft) used to reach only after run-out.

+ 1 on the above. I hit some bombs with the I20, but all in all I hit the G15, the G20 and the I15, ( all PX shafts, all 10.5s ), just about the same. Would not want to live on the difference. G20 is in the bag, G15 is the backup and the I20 is visiting a friend. I, personally, seem to get more roll out with the G20 and it does not fly as high, but that's just me.
