Mizuno MP Fli-Hi

I am just curious if anyone knows why the Mizuno MP Fli-Hi is just now gaining traction on Tour, yet it has been out quiet a while? My guess would be that Mizuno made a bunch of these for the Open Championship specifically and the pros have liked them which has led to them staying in the bag.

I persoanlly think that these guys like playing a long iron, and alot of the hybrids "tour" or not are fairway wood based. I love the worability off the tee, it fits well with a traditional iron top line. Plus what other OEM's , besides Callaway now, make an forged iron style hybrid?

Fourteen, Bridgestone, Mizuno, Srixon, Titleist, and now Callaway have all designed iron-based hybrids for the tours. I don't think that they were/are as forgiving as the wood-based models.

I love golf

The fli hi has been discontinued, my friend just tried to order one and was unable..I personally enjoy my fli hi, but recently picked up a fourteen and am in the honeymoon phase. Funny, I just got a call from the friend looking to purchase a fli hi and I lent him mine, he told me the head had come off... back to mizzy...From the factory 1/2" long with a Project X 6.0 in an 18 degree.

The MP FLiHi is awesome.. I use a 18 and 21. As you mentioned they are super popular on tour. I think they are as forgiving as a hybrid with iron like trajectory and control.

I ran across one of these in a pawn shop one day. I knew they were nice but had never hit one. This one was in as mint of shape as you could find and they were only asking $12! So I picked it up and fell in love. Had it not been for the infamous bag drop thief I would still be gaming it. Damn sweet club.

Can anyone confirm whether or not the fli hi's are actually forged? they are not advertised as such on Mizzy's website, and they also do not say forged anywhere on the clubhead like their other offerings. Not trying to go off subject here but i have the 21 and 24 degree, have always thought they felt more like mizuno's cast irons off the face.

The most recent model was cast. The model prior was a forged face and neck with a cast back welded on... The H4 is similar construction...

I bought a Hi Fli almost the day they were released quite a while ago now and immediately found it to be so easy to hit and long (for me anyway). I notice on the galleries on here from the tournaments that this club appears in many bags regardless if the Players uses clubs from another manufacturer so it must be good

I liked the original Fli-Hi's SO MUCH better than the newer model. I bought the 3 and 4 to match my 58's when they came out, and hated them. Still playing my original Fli-Hi 3 iron, will probably replace it with an H4 if it's any good...

I agree that the fli-hi is a really nice club. I recently picked up the 24 degree as a 4 iron replacement, to transition beween my irons and my j40 hybrids. While it is a great club and easier to hit than my 4 iron J38 DPC on the range, i have decided that having an odd duck club in the bag during rounds is not worth it. After hitting my 7/8/6 irons throughout the round, i am more consistent with the long iron that matches my set than the fli-hi, even if the fli hi is theoretically easier to hit. My new bag strategy is to streamline and simplify, meaning less options and less types of clubs overall. You guys might be seeing a minty condition 24 degree pop up on the BST soon.

I am in the exact same situation! ...altho I would nec consider it an "odd duck" and my hybrid is different

if you want a little man's helper club, they are fantastic. some guys like that sort of thing. if you truly love the game, you'd learn and develop your swing so you can use your 2 iron. that's the real deal. but if you need a skirt, go for it.

That is why so many guys on tour use them because they need skirts. Not many use a two iron anymore unless you are a dinosaur or a caveman. I tell you what you keep hitting that 2 iron out of the rough & missing it 100 yards, I'll hit my "little man's helper club" and be putting for eagle.

I have the newest version (pre-H4), and unfortunately I have been disappointed. Had been considering one for some time......saw the buzz on tour.....so finally picked up an 18* with 6.5 PX. Bottom line is I think it feels awful. And the trajectory is not what I was looking for at all. Don't get me wrong, I figured it would get the ball up in the air........but solid shots balloon straight up into orbit. The new Cally seems to have a much better trajectory from the few times I've hit it. Surprised to see the love in this thread for the older versions of Fli-Hi. Anyway, mine is in mint condition and will be on Ebay shortly if anyone is interested. +1/2 inch long and 2 degrees up.

I've had the 21* for a couple seasons now. I have the cut muscle version with the forged face and hosel. Feels great to me, and is a natural transition from the other mizzys in my set. The only thing I find with it is that I can't attack down on it (gotta be sweepy), and it's harder to use off of firmer fairways. Maybe that's why it's even more popular on the Euro Tour where the fairways are a bit softer then on the PGATOUR??. But it's all about the looks for sure, and if you got the cut muscle version, the feel, from what I hear. The last version wasnt' made left hand and neither is the H4, so I can't comment on feel for those. That's also why a while back I went all in and found the 18* and 24* and picked them up. Now all is left is to find some sweet MP-60s (which I think I have thanks to a fellow WRXer, thanks!) and I'm gonna have a siiiick combo set. I imagine I won't be using the 18* all that much and might end up 50/50 on the 21*, I'm looking around for a real hybrid too come golf season, and have to make decisions about woods, basically building a new bag. Just moved tho and I'm not real sure on course conditions around here, so there's gonna be some trial and error involved. Kinda upset I have to put the Callaway utility outta my mind, as it looks sweet and the reviews make me want to try.. But the mizzy's are sweet, and I love the looks and feel. Which is what I assume tour pros enjoy about them, iron like looks with the same feel and playability.

Hey tarkata. I see your only playing 3 iron through PW, looks like you put a skirt on too hey? Or what do you call it a little mans helper, if the pros use it then why shouldn't we unless your a pro of some sort and if so I apologize.
