Texas guys golf trip - DFW to Austin

a few buddies and I are planning our very first real guys golf getaway weekend. However, we cannot spend a ton and go out of state like we would like, but its a start!!

 

We live in the DFW area and for the most part, have played most of the courses in our area.. Everything from little 9 hole courses to the Colonial. But none of us have really played many courses outside of our area.

 

We have family down in Austin that live on a golf course called Twin Creeks Country Club in Cedar Park (right outside of Austin).

 

so our plan was to take a long weekend and head down to Austin and play as many rounds as we can... like maybe 1-2 rounds on each day, Friday, Sat and Sunday. We know one day we will play at the Twin Creeks course, most likely on Saturday or Sunday, but are looking for ideas on other courses to play.

 

They do not have to be IN Austin, but would like them to either be around Austin or on the way to Austin from DFW. We also have a friend who can get us on another club called Berry Creek in Georgetown, but I havent heard much about it and not sure how good/nice it is?

ohh, and Im wanting public courses, not clubs because we wont have any other hookups to get us on.

I did call Barton Creek, but in order to play there you have to stay there on site and buy a package for like 2-3 nights... we dont really want to spend that much and lock us down to playing only there... kinda liked the idea of traveling around and seeing different places. But if someone knew of a way to get on there without staying there, that would be IDEAL!

I would add Grey Rock. It's on the south side of town, so it's a bit of a hike from Cedar Park. But it's great.

I forgot to add Wolfdancer, which is part of the Lost Pines Resort in Bastrop. Well worth the 45 minute drive and you don't have to be staying at the resort to play.

If you want a quick trip, go to Glenrose and play Squaw Valley. Two nice courses and very affordable.
