Top Golf now in Houston

Just FYI for you Houstonians, they are building a Top Golf on the corner of I-10 and Hwy 6.

 

 

If you don't know what it is, it's like a Dave and Busters for golfers. 3 story driving range with targets, beer, food...

Yep, pretty crazy. Good business model and it really is good for newcomers to the game and casual players, but not really that good (cost prohibitive) to those who want to beat lots of balls and get into a rhythm. I bought a players' card at the store in Dallas - I wonder if they'll let me use it for the one here in Houston.

Opening dec 3rd, down side is that it's $20 an hour per bay....

They have "executive" memberships that should run around $100-$125 and include all the balls you can hit, plus 10% off meals. At least that's their corporate model so far....

Got to try it last week, cool setup should be a good place to practice if they have reasonable rates.

I agree with one of the above,,a good place for family fun, casual golfers, and beginners. Hitting off mats, just isnt my idea of good practice.

Word on the street is they're opening to the public Dec. 4th... Actually I lie, that's just what their website says.

From what I hear from Dallas friends, this place is always crowded. Prices are posted on the website.

My friend's brother is a chef there. They had a soft opening last week. I don't know how it went but was told they will open depending on how the soft opening goes(went).

It's more for "fun" than it is to get serious practice. Great place to take the family/girlfriend/kids for dinner, hit balls, have some drinks, a few laughs, etc. They are just cheap balls that have microchips in them and you try to hit the targets in order to get points. It's similar to darts. It's expensive as far as golf range practice goes. Peak hours are $40/hr. I can hit about 100 balls/hr at the range at about $12/100 balls. Making it about 3X-4X more expensive than a regular driving range.


Great place to hit balls, have fun, relax, get a bite to eat while you whack balls, try to hit Bubba shots, etc. Not a place I would go for serious practice. You would be the only one there trying to be serious.

I went last weekend for a bit and like the previous posters have said, it's definitely not for frequent serious practice. It's a great place to go with 3 buddies, have a few drinks, grab some dinner, hit some balls, etc. before going out for the night. It's $40/hour for the stall but you can split it up between the 4 of you so $10 an hour isn't bad at all for the entertainment this provides. While I was there everything worked well: the scoring system was great, the games were fun, food was solid, drinks weren't too over priced, etc. Great place to go with your buddies or on a date with a lady friend that is interested in golf and have a good time.

I am going to make it over there this weekend to try it out with some friends that are not that great at golf. Should be a good time for all from what i have read.

I go to the one by me, to have fun, take the family, meet friends, not to get real practice.

It's more of a novelty than anything. But, if you want to hit balls when it is cold out, they have heaters, and fans in the summer.

Another note, over time, the mats will begin to have imprints where your feet are placed.

We tried to go Saturday night, BAD IDEA... the place was packed and people were parking on the street... and to top it all off, there was a 5 1/2 hour wait to get a bay. It looked like a really cool place to chill, even if you were just interested in the bar. And they're open til 1:00am so you can hang out all night if you want.

We got the $5.00 membership which enables you to reserve a bay a week ahead of time, so we'll see how that works out. We walked around and left. No way I'm waiting 5 1/2 hours for a driving range!

Tried to go last Friday and there was a 2 1/2 hour wait. Just crazy and this is the biggest facility that they have in the US. Looks like going during the week is the best bet.

We finally went Saturday night. It really was a lot of fun, but definitely not the place for serious practice. Take the distance it registers with a grain of salt... I was almost hitting the back net and it was registering as just shy of 200 yds when it went in the target I shot for. It may be correct, but I can definitely drive the ball further than 200 yds. But I'm willing to bet it isn't real life distances.

Either way, it was a lot of fun!

I have been past there a few times. It looks like no matter what time day or night that it's packed every day of the week. Even at like noon on a Tuesday.
