Fred - so glad you got such a great club at an incredible price. I was just watching having just shelled out a few bills last week on a '54 LFF. I already have 3 '50 LFFs, the Dave Wood refurbished non-gamer and 2 I enjoy taking to the course. This new addition will be a gamer too and the GP Victory green and Dynamic shaft from the 70's are perfect. Looks like someone played it a little back then and it has been in storage since. I have hit 4 balls so far with it and hammered 2 on the sweet spot with the other 2 exceptionally good for persimmon misses.

I might have Dave Wood refinish the 693. It's an awesome head with very good lines. D3 swing weight. Few more pics added to post above

You do know the original color of this TA 693 was black, so the carbon spot was most likely not visible to the first owner.

So how was the ball flight and distance with that Texan ? I could only muster 220 yds with the 43 1/2" - 44" steel shafted persimmon. But I miss that sound came off the persimmon head. So was the clicking from the steel spikes.

Both days were pretty cold (about 44 deg both times.. when I received the club I thought it looked like it had about 9 deg of loft , ( no loft designation on the club) although most Texans show the loft on the plate. I hit a mix of old balatas and a few Callaway chrome soft balls, of course the Cally went further. Hard to determine carry but my estimate with the cally carry about 210 , 235-240 total distance. I definitely got them out there 235-240 on my good shots . Conditions of course pretty poor. For a club that looks like it has low loft I was pleasantly surprised the height I got..

Darn, nice poke and it showed in your video. You know, the PGA Tour average driving distance back in the 60's into the 70's was something like 252 or close to it. You are qualified.

Apex 5 shaft and leather grip are in pristine condition, might be a special order .......

I play the other drivers I have , Apex ( one with Apex 4 steel shaft and one with Hogan graphite ) and several other Hogan models, just can't bring myself to hit this driver. By the time I have it in possession, I had passed my prime to appreciate this one. Like my 40th anniversary iron set, they will remain unplayed stored inside the house for temperature control. If my kids want them later, they could enjoy them.

The Cleveland Classic - Byron Nelson was my gamer for several seasons. Think it was refinished just once.

 

The Toney Penna was a chance found with a full length case . Did not play with it much.

 

The MacGregor Tourney PT1W Velocitized was re-finished by a well known persimmon wood maker more than 3 decades ago and it belonged to a retired PGA player ( I was told ). I purchased the set of 1,2,3,4 at the peak of the value for the persimmon woods. These was hit a few times with brand new Titleist Balata Wound.
