I wasn't particularly taken with his swing (I guess it's just me).

I was under the impression that he swung/pivoted more left, however it looked like he swung his hands down the line and rolled the face over somewhat.
If you are suggesting he is flipping you are very wrong ;).
Spelling test for you..... one of these words is what you might do to a burger on a grill, the other is what happens when you push a ball down a hill, see if you can tell which is which....

a) Roll.

b) Flip.

c) I don't know.
That would actually be a grammar test not a spelling test. Now we will do a real spelling test. Which one is spelled correctly. "that sure was a _______ post happygolf wrote"

A) smug

B) condescending

C) defensive

D) all three are correct

 All in good fun.

I read the thread with interest. I notice (for my untrained eye) that our downswings are pretty similar. Does this mean he swings like a mid-hcp, or do I have to play better than 14.6? :fie:

One day, when I'm grown up, I will have my own club champion-scratch golfer-plastered with pics of my new car-thread. This would be awesome!

Is there a more up to date video of his swing? Has he managed to keep the backswing nice and short?
Saw him hitting balls at the Barclays and his swing is good as ever. Still nice, short of parallel. I was too far back to get decent video though. His tempo is unreal.

Got to meet him too and got his autograph. Guys the real deal. Talked to him for a good couple minutes. No one knew who he was so everyone kind of walked by. Asked him if he still talks/works with the wizard and he said yes. Not sure it that was yes to working or talking, but cool nonetheless. Definitely on my list of top players. Nice, gracious, and a great swing.

No point in even arguing with you. He is 47th in ball striking, 56th in GIR, and 155th in FIR. He doesn't hit ever shot pure and he is far from the best ball striker on tour. He is currently the best PLAYER on tour. Big difference. He could be even better if he drove it straighter and took some of the curve off his shots, if not he will always have a high push miss or over hook especially under pressure.
And this is exactly why I take what 'teachers' say with a grain of salt. From the amount of faults you can pick from Rory's swing, I guess you're 'that' guy who thinks Kaymer did the right thing trying to change his swing. Facepalm.

This kid has a nice swing, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Far from the best ball striker on tour? Haha, priceless. But no, stats prove everything.

You were saying? Whoops

Pretty much exactly what im shooting for. Whose his coach dana dahlquist? Lol

Given that Dan Carraher uploaded the footage, I'm going to guess his coach is Dan Carraher. ;)

How good are those alignments at the top of the backswing? Sick.

ScreenShot2012-10-29at101314AM.png

Can someone help me understand something. Is this position at the top of the backswing on plane or laid off?

If I drew a line down his toes representing the target line.... his club obviously isn't parallel to it...

But does that have nothing to do with being on plane or not because it's in relation to your backswing whether or not it's on plane, laid off, or atl??

Would love to understand this more.

He is bang on plane, the club at the top does not have to be a parallel line to the target to be on plane forget that thought totally, that can make the swing too long for most. Focus on the great shoulder turn, his left shoulder pointing at the ball and how his left arm, his left wrist and the club are all lined up. It's pretty hard to screw it up on the way down from that postion.

Forget about the club at top pointing at the target line, marry the proper amount of up with the proper amount of rotation and you get his backswing. I also like the depth he has as well.

Yeah it's just the fact that he didn't make a longer swing. It's all in relation to your swing position. Think of someone that swung less far back than James does in that picture. Their shaft is going to point even more left, yet obviously that doesn't mean they're laid off.

James Still looks fantastic! His swing is so good. He’s lost so much weight, and he’s never been overweight that I know of. Great guy, back from an elbow injury and medical exemption. Hope he continues to play well. He’s one of the really good guys on tour, (I think most are). Maybe he will bring back that dance!
