Consider me one of those guys that thinks pros can hit Broomsticks because they are so good but I'm really wondering about 2 items that Rory will be using. The driver and the ball. Rory has been almost perfect with the 913 this year. He's tuned his driver perfectly for the pro V1 and I can't believe that he'll be able to get anywhere close to that with the Nike equipment this year. I think Rory will need to do a lot of scrambling from the rough in 2013. As for the other clubs...no issues.
Just speculating, I'd don't know why he would want to pass up an additional 10-15 yards off the tee using one of the Covert drivers with the new 20XI balls.............
Not buying it. His average drive this year was 310.5 yards and extremely accurate the second half. He completely dialed in the 913/V1 combo. I just don't see him being that good next year with the Nike combo. I don't doubt he'll get there but not next year.

Rory's NIKE Bag will be

Driver: NIKE VR_S Conver Tour

Fairways: NIKE LTD

Iron: NIKE VR PRO Custom 3--9

Wedges: NIKE PRO Custom 46, 54, 60

Putter: Scotty Cameron

Ball: NIKE 20XI-X

I also agree with this, except he probably wont play the 20XI-X. Don't pretty much all of the Nike staffers game an older Nike Tour ball of some type, like the One Tour-D. Much more like the Pro-V1X.

Also, he is 100% gonna be sporting Nike cleats, if it is Nike he's signed w/. They're a shoe company! I'm thinking those just announced Lunar Controls should do the trick. I'm pretty sure they're Nike's direct response to the FJ Sports. I love the DryJoy Tours I just bought, but those Lunar Controls look great. I have some Lunar running shoes. The comfiest running shoe of all time. Feels like you're walking on a cloud.

Nike will get whatever Rory wants to give, nothing more, If he decides that he is not going to break the Oakley Contract, he wont, same with the other deals he has , This guy is his own man as Chubby found out, It could well be a Nike bag and a set number of clubs and nothing else or no deal. he has nothing to prove and seems to want to prove nothing

according to Rory, no deal done

Rory did not say "no deal done".

The story that was picked up by the press seems to be that a Fox Sports reporter name Robert Lusetich reported that he has

Signed a deal with Nike in the range of $200 MM

And has filmed a commercial with TW, Nick Watney and Kyle Stanley.

Just basing off of Stewart Cink's numbers this weekend. His season driving average is 288 yards; his average at the CMHN Classic was 298 yards with the Covert Performance driver. Granted it's only 8 measured drives but he did pick up 10 yards; his accuracy was better as well.

Don't know what driver Chappell had in play but his average was up. Haven't looked at the stats of any Nike athletes that played in Singapore this weekend but several of them had the new Covert drivers in play also.

So yes, I think it's possible for RM to see an increase in his driving distance without taking a hit in accuracy. 10 yards is only 4 mph increase in ball speed.

Was defineitely playing the 913. Dyson and Molinari were using the Covert drivers - looked damn sexy as well (the drivers, not the players). Reckon Rory is a shoe in with the Covert next year.

Gentlemen,

Lets put these rumors to rest. Source close to me knows Rory and his camp down in South FLA. NIKE deal is done, wont report what the final number is but it is a DONE deal. For all those wondering about shoes and clothes, Oakley and Titleist/Footjoy deals are over and not renewing. Expect everything NIKE from Rory next year, bag, shoes, clubs clothing. The only thing questionable is his hat deal with the Jumeirah; i believe they are still in negotiations with that.

For all wondering about the ball and driver, Numbers on the driver have been great, and really it doesn't matter much. Every driver head these days are pretty good, its all about finding the right shaft, and it looks like he has. Now the ball, I have heard he has been testing the new ball for some time now and seems ok, but there is always doubters out there. There is always the possibility that he gets 1000 Pro V1X blanks next year and has NIKE stamp their swoosh on it just like Tiger did for years till they made him a ball he could actually use.

If there are any more questions . . . . . .

10 yards longer than the previous Nike driver only means he gained yards with the new equipment. You have no idea what distance Rory will hit the Nike equipment. Keep it real.

I think the thing people miss, is when Tiger got the deal to ease into to Nike gear. Nike was still very new to equipment and the endorsement deal was promoted as more of a partnership with Tiger helping Nike come up with great clubs. The optics made sense and it did not reflect poorly on Nike that Tiger did play all the clubs right away. Rors will be pushed much hard to game Nike gear right away.

And who ever posted that he would wear Footjoys shoes and gloves :taunt:

Your extrapolation is not consistent. For example...Cink moving from his Nike driver to the Covert is not consistent with Rory moving from his Titleist to the Covert. Also PGA tour driving distances do not only measure tee shots only with driver. I'm not discounting, I just find it hard to believe. We shall see.

Why? I don't doubt this is false, but why couldn't someone do this? If I was to buy a ball and rub off the logo and add my own for my own personal use what would be wrong with that? Just about every player on tour has used their sponsors headcover on someone else's club.

Now THAT'S a Cameron fan boy comment if I ever read one. German stainless is not rare...either is Damascus...and virtually every putter company out there today has a deep milling technique. AND Rors has switched Cameron putters numerous times over the past few years, so a new Nike putter isn't out of the question. Later!

When Rory agreed to do a Ltd. Ed Scotty Cameron putter line, he and the people at Scotty knew there was a change coming down the pipe and soon. Don't think for a second that Scotty would agree to make a putter knowing soon be useless if Rory is not playing it and not winning.

Rory will have his SC in bag no doubt.

Or they could have decided they needed to make as much money off Rory while they still could and went ahead with the release. Tiger is a creature of habit, which I believe is why he used the Scotty for so long; Rory used two different putters for just last year, so I don't see why switching again would be so difficult.

Seriously? Scotty Cameron would commit murder to get/keep a club in the #1's bag. Very unlikely that there is any formal contract or even unspoken obligations on Rory's side.

I would expect that chances are that Footjoy, and Cameron will continue to remain his shoe/glove and putter of choice! Using a logo on non production or exclusive product by another manufacturer in pro sports is much more common place than most on this site would believe- its widely used and often imbedded in the non disclosure portion of the contract.

Nike or a 3rd party approaches titleist and asks for a large run of non logo'd prov1s, a premium is paid, done deal. Putting ink, stitching, labeling is far more economical than production. Meanwhile Nike begins to develop their own ball with similar flight, spin and feel characteristics- making it Rory or Nick is not the problem, the challenge is to commercially market this ball as the same ball they use that is protected by numerous patents and manufacturing patents by titleist

For years and years Nike golf balls were precept balls screened with a Nike logo on it.

But you could just as easily make an argument as a general golf consumer that "Why should I switch to the new stuff? It must not be any better if the guys on tour didn't switch."

Stewart Cink, for example, went through a swing change this year. When asked why he wasn't playing the VR Pro LTD he said "Well by changing my swing that's one variable. If I changed my driver, thats a second variable. I wouldn't necessarily know why the flight was due to the driver or the swing I made." Makes sense when explained that way.

No older drivers, no Tour * D, no SQ fairways. So I believe that Lucas will in fact be with TMAG next year in some capacity.
That is baffling to me, as you would think that it would be a testament to how well even their "older" lines can still perform.

Ping would not dream of doing that.
But you could just as easily make an argument as a general golf consumer that "Why should I switch to the new stuff? It must not be any better if the guys on tour didn't switch."
Indeed you could, and there lies the differences between some of these OEMs, players and even the consumers themselves. Some OEMs hang their hat on the fact that their equipment is still on par several years down the road.

Is a cookie cutter staff that attractive? To some it definitely is, to others, maybe not. But then again, they want to sell stuff. Some consumers like knowing that the 300$ driver they buy is going to still be viable and playable for more that a year, some don't care at all .

run of the mill driver with stock shaft
a couple of outdated hybrids
shovel-ier shovels
wedges from same shovel company
some putter with a dead insert and
a hideous grip

There's already been some pictures of him hitting balls off a hotel in Dubai in Nike Frees.

the tennis shoe/running shoe... not the golf shoe...

I would expect that chances are that Footjoy, and Cameron will continue to remain his shoe/glove and putter of choice! He has never putted with anything other than a Cameron, and anyone with half a brain would council him to not change that part of his equipment, as all putters are not created equally! Just lok at Tiger's putting woes after moving to the Method! He uses a GSS putter, German Stainless Steel and it is Deep Milled, that would be something very hard to duplicate!
There's no way he's going to be getting paid the amount of money rumored and not be wearing a Nike glove and shoes if he ends up with Nike. For the putter, there's probably a deadline of a year or so to make the transition within. I don't see any contract he signs not being for 14 clubs (and the brand new models to boot, not year old stuff).
But I thought that was the nike critism that Lucas Glover had, when he won the open he was using a five year old, no longer produced Nike driver?

With that said, it will be interesting to see if Tiger will play new ball coming out. Heard he won't change from 2008°2009 old Nike ball.

Really? Tiger was using the new ball during the Duel with Rory and specifically said he liked the new ball. More distance off the tee and spin around the green.
