Craig Parry's swing

The swing that Johnny Miller famously disparaged by saying "if Ben Hogan saw that, he'd puke". BUT a winner of 23 professional tournaments, including two on the PGA Tour and playing professional since 1985.

 

Interesting to see his OTT move from down the line. I made this quick vid tonight from the telecast of the tournament at Kingston Heath. He pushed this shot well to the right and short. Got up and down from a bunker for par...he has a great short game.

 

What is the cause of his downswing path? It seems to me his arms run on a bit in the backswing, club gets over the line and the downswing is his natural recovery from that.

You sorta feel like you're watching Jim Furyk in a funhouse Mirror when you watch that swing.

EDIT it is rather amazing that you can have 2 guys that are so completely opposite, both of whom do a lot of things in their swing that if any of us took to their local PGA pro would have him Saying "No no no no. No........ Just........no. You should reconsider the 6 lessson package sir, we have a lot of work to do" Yet they make it work brilliantly. Our game will drive you mad

Parry is right, it is the swing that works for him. Best advice I ever heard was "You don't have to be text book perfect just repeatable"

All you have to tell Perry is to maintain his tilt so he doesn't get too steep. In other words, stay behind the ball.

Parry is obviously right. Many teachers would ruin him and he wouldn't be able to break 80. Even with his freakin unreal short game. I dare him to go to Andy Plummer lol.

Wow is he steep. I wonder what the specs on his clubs are? I wonder if they are way upright to accommodate that angle. He sure makes it work. He isn't in too bad of shape in the backswing IMHO until he lifts it a little at the top and gets it across the line a little. I kinda like that position, which normally makes it easier to swing from the inside, but then he just comes straight now on it way steep

I would trade him games in a heart beat.

I have watched Craig Parry a bit over the last few years. That footage was not one of his better swings. As eluded to earlier if its repeatable and it works then thats it. All the best golfers have one common thing, their swing is unique but repeatable and it works for them. No two swings are the same. I am sure Craig Parry, Jim Furyk and Tommy two gloves have copped the saying "Ugly but effective"

awesome, to deliver the club consistancy with his move shows how good his eye hand is and how confident he is. Most top players would change and more than likely never be the same. Good on him

His swing is very similar to other tour pros that have his same build. Craig Stadler, Mark Calcaveccia, Jason Gore, etc. These big chested guys cant swing back on an 'inside path' as easily as a guy who didn't have the stomach or chest to swing around.
