Scratch SB-1 vs Miura CB-501 HELP

I am having a little bit of a hard time deciding. I thought I had my mind completely made up on a set of Miuras, then I changed my mind and decided to get a Scratch combo set AR1/SB-1. Well, it will take 8 weeks to get the combo set so I then thought I was complete set on getting SB-1 3-PW and then if I have any trouble with the long irons just order a couple of AR-1s. I have always played blade long irons and really do not have any trouble with them I just thought it might be a little insurance to get AR-1.

Well, now I have an offer for a set of CB-501 with the exact shaft I would order in the SBs, C-taper S+ 1/2" over standard and they are actually 2* up exactly like I would order them although I have a lie loft machine anyway so the lie doesn't matter that much.

One of the reasons I was leaning toward the Scratch clubs was the grind, I am a digger/driver. Well, the bounce on the 501 is almost exactly the same as the DD SB-1s.

Anyone want to help with comparisons, especially the guys that have hit both? I know I am comparing apples to oranges a little because the SB is a blade and the 501 is a CB. But from what I have read,. the 501 plays much more like a blade.

I have read every single thread I believe on SB, Scratch, Miura, 501 etc. I just thought a fresh thread might help. Thanks.

Found this thread.... did u ever pick up the 501s?
I play the sb1s now and just got my 501s. The sb1 feel softer whereas the miuras are not as but to me denser or solid. The tb's felt the same way. I'm still figuring it out as haven't been on the course yet. If you like the thinner top lines then you may not like the higher irons on the 501s. I'll have to get used to this. I haven't done the side by side comp but I think the sb1s heads are bigger?

Just to confirm are we talking TD SB-1's or OTR SB-1's? if you say OTR, then I'd likely go with the CB-501's.

I have miura 301's and scratch sb1's with the same shafts kb tours. The scratch's have a smaller profile and feel a bit softer and have a better turf interaction for me. I have the ds grind. The scratches also flight a touch higher. My only complaint with the miuras is the longer irons are not as easy to get up and carry compared to most blades even. I also had a set of ar1's, but would pick the 301's over them. If you are a good ballstriker and like the mass as close to the shaft as you can get go with the scratch or miura blades. If you want less of that and a smidge more forgiveness go with the 501's.

I am pretty sure he decided to go with Scratch, but I think that he is waiting for the new iron to come out a little later this spring.

Doc420 is correct, I ended up driving to Chattanooga and going through a fitting. I am glad I did as I thought I was a DD but I am actually a DS, no where near digger like I thought. I loved the SB-1s but when I saw the "new" blade, I thought I would wait, especially since at the time it was the beginning of Dec and I can't really play much in Ohio until April really. The "new" blade, what ever it is going to be called, is supposed to have a graduated center of gravity that is lower in the long irons and higher in the short irons. They are really sharp, at least the proto's are. Hopefully the actual blade will be the same.

I was told in Dec that they would likely be released at the beginning of April. Patrick sent me an email last week saying they are supposed to have "samples" in hand around April 10th, or TODAY. I am hopeful they hit the dates as I am really impatient. It has killed me to wait this long. I have been tempted to just have them build me a set of SB-1s a couple of times, but I decided to wait. I hope the wait is worth it.

The 501s have always caught my eye. I hit a 6 iron at a range about a month ago just playing around. I like them quite a bit.

Yes, they are basically muscle backs, or what I call a blade. No cavity.

No pics unfortunately on here. I have pics but I promised I wouldn't share them and I can't. I am sure when they release them they will post some pictures etc. I do not want to steal their thunder and they were kind enough to share them so I have to hold up my end of the agreement. They are cool looking I will say that.
