Just found a 2-9 set of these at goodwill... Anyone know anything about them?

 

Looks like they are wood covered steel shafts from what I can tell but I can't find much info on them.

I think that the Spalding Top Flites synchro dyne in stainless steel were a popular Blade back in the day. Your irons would probably make for interesting conversation . But I'm guessing there isn't a lot of demand. That pre war stuff is hard to hit. Margin for error is +or- about 3 angstrom units. That goes for all brands. How the great players of the early eras shot the scores they did Is beyond my comprehension. Take those babies out for a test drive. Unless you pure it, you will get some funky shots

Here is a set of Spalding I sold a couple of months ago with very nice Persimmon woods also. The shafts and grips were mint, the heads on the irons had patina loss, I sold the entire set for less than 50.00
Like Uncle Bob said they were hard to hit and unless you are a big Bobby Jones fan ,not very collectible but very nice to look at.

I can remember when the same set that teevons sold for less than $50 would cost you
about $250 for the Irons and $100 for the woods - 1990s.

As for playability - very stiff playing irons. But not unplayable. One of the greatest
(and I would argue based on his record, in the top 25 to 50 all time amateur golfers)
Michigan Amateur golfers of all time played his 1930s/1940s irons many, many years and
won multiple championships with them. I want to say he played them into the 1980s but
can't for sure.

I know for a fact that he was putting with his old hickory shafted putter until the
late 1990s.

Chuck Kocsis was a golfer for the ages.

This set was made one year in hickory. I think in 1930 when they first appeared there could have been two Pyratone shafts. A gray color and the wooden looking color.They were designed by J Victor East who emigrated here in the early 20's at the urging of Bobby Jones and became the first pro-only one year-at Biltmore Forrest in Asheville when it opened. Jones played the opening day and was an honorary member. The design stayed on for years and after some slight tuning became the irons recently posted as Topflight Lee Trevino irons.
I manufacture a reproduction set of the hickories made in 1931. here is a couple pictures.

If they are Faux wood they are Pyratone, 1930's. Made to look like hickory so people would be more likely to buy them and make the switch to steel.
