Do people still hate all the colors of equipment?

I remember when TM put out that first white driver a few years back and people lost it. But now a black driver is far from standard. We have red, green, white, silver, blue, pink, etc. Personally my bag over the past year has changed from satin silver irons and wedges with black woods to black irons and wedges with a silver driver. I thought the silver might turn me off but honestly after 3 swings, I didn't even notice it. So my question is really to all the people that say they hate the new colors, crowns with graphics, etc. Do you still hate them, and if so, why? Personally it's grown on me quickly. The red covert and blue amp pro cell seemed out of the question two years ago, but now I can't help but admire how good they look. Hell, I'd like a red driver, white fairway, and blue hybrid now that I think about it more. It's the hot new thing, but is this possibly the new standard? And I know we've seen occasional colored crowns every year, so the other question is, is the black only driver dead?

Sorry for mistakes, wrote this on a phone.

I like black crowns as well on my woods. While some of these flashy colors may look cool to some, I do not see my self playing them (that includes the "white" driver)

I tried the rocketballz fairway wood and I like the feel and forgivness but can’t stand the white head. I will not buy it because it is white. Bright white club head hurts my sensitive eyes in the sun.

That said, I bought the Adams XTD but they are more grey than white. :D

I love the trend. I already painted my driver purple to match my oban kiyoshi shaft. I am in the process of refinishing my MP57s in black chrome with custom ferrules and paintfill. And I am repainting my srixon AD hybrids this winter. Almost all of the tech improvements in the last few years are BS anyway. Custom looks is the new wave

personally i like black heads only, but i am probably going to be in the minority. It will be crazy to see bags 5 years from now out on the course.

I love the colors. But then again, I like funky shaped putters and wear other colors than blue, brown and black. What do I know? :D

I love the colors too, just not on my clubs. My buddy is in the middle of woods orange which will look awesome. I just can't get used to looking down at a white driver myself, but i really like them when other people are playing them.

I don't like any wood unless it's black, the grey color of the older titleist clubs, or the wooden color of persimmon on an actual persimmon head.

I can't stand the white club heads. Ugly things. The silver on the adams '12 line is better but not by much. I like my driver/fairways black...with one exception, the Cleveland Classic.

As for irons/wedges...I don't mind. I've played chrome/satin, currently have black irons & wedges. As for putters, don't like the white there either...

I still do not like the white clubs. The new batch of skittle colored clubs look like they are made for pre-school children. Give my basic black anyday.

Your avatar reminded me of all the crazy car colors you could get back in the late 60's, early 70's. Mopar especially, to a lesser extent Ford and Chevy. Nothing like Plum Crazy, Grabber Blue, Hugger Orange, loved them all.

For the same reason **** Eye for the Straight Guy is no longer on the air.

You can only go so far with colors and style. At some point, you have to have performance.

I'm not intimidated by Lime Green paintfill. Especially if it's being carried by a fat b@stard wearing a John Hardy thumbring.

I miss the black on drivers and FW woods. So much so I am seriously debating picking up another 9064 head just to have as a backup. As good as some of the newer gear may be I just do not like looking at a white head or crazy graphics on the crown.

That D-bag is a perfect example. Let's paint a shaft Lime Green and tell people that if you aren't rocking that paint job, you're leaving yards on the table. Are you F'ing kidding me?

It's one thing for Nike to have a red driver. But it looks like it's being backed up with new technology. I'm willing to try the driver for the tech. And if the red paint bothers me, I'll have it painted matte black.

I could care less if someone wants to paintfill their clubs if they have nothing better to do. But if I'm going to buy something, performance comes first. Color matching grips is far, far, FAR down the list.'

My objection to the colors was always because they were sometimes distracting and some colors like white show their age by fading or dirt build up. I liked the tumble finish of the old Callaway woods, a sort of battle gray, because it did not distract and was a durable color that only aged subtly. Paint needs such care and if marred or chipped creates a spot that draws the eye.

Personally speaking, I'm more attracted to the simple utilitarian constructions that used to rule wherein a touch of color was about as far the OEM's would go. These days the cartoon colors turn me away especially if they look to age too quickly.

[sup]Let's see. When TM introduced white headed drivers, I thought it was an incredibly stupid move. [/sup]

[sup]Then, this summer, I hit a TM burner superfast 2.0 fairway wood on the course. The freaking thing went a mile. [/sup]

[sup] I started reaching long par 4 holes in regulation. I birdied 'em ! [/sup]

[sup]All of a sudden the white color was not such a dumb idea. I now own the driver, the FW and the hybrid. All of them a beautiful ugly white color. [/sup]

When I was regularly playing, I'd be within a few strokes of par on a good day. On a great day, I'd go under par. Today, I'll be somewhere between par and bogey golf. It depends on how the wedges and putter are working. I was blessed with clubhead speed and was too lazy to work on my short game for a long time.

I've spent enough years tearing apart and building clubs, however, to know a thing or two about performance and what is truly needed in a good club. Unfortunately, technicolor ferrules and matching paintfill aren't it. It's one thing to put a little flair in your bag. But never at the cost of performance. People that put iron shafts in putters because they are black/white/neon especially crack me up. Putter shafts are designed to be a very soft flex to allow the head to release at a slower swing speed. Putting a wedge shaft in there kills that flex and feel.

But, as always, to each their own.

I would be interested to know your framework for judging performance as you have great taste in equipment. I play with very similarly designed stuff (minus the rbz) and I was wondering what you look for specifically other than fairly clean looking heads and very stable shafts? Also, did you paint the rbz black by any chance haha?

I would expect this color trend, to turn into a fad in a few years and we'll head back to your standard grey and black crowns. The white clubhead isn't exactly Taylor Made's first foray into the colored clubhead arena (copper anyone?). I'm too young to remember the bright orange and green golf balls, but they went away for a decade or two, and are coming back again. It's like the fashion industry, comes in cycles just to break up the monotony every once in a while.

Good post. I commented recently on how TaylorMade's big marketing plan was to go back and stand out like they did with the Copper. So that people on TV recognize pros playing their woods immediately. Add the era of HD TV and white. BAM! It worked.

Now everyone wants a chunk. Wait until Tiger and Rory play red.

Personally, I think Anser/i20 was the best thing. What's that, you want to give me a 100% black head, with a matte top and no glare in the sun? Gimme gimme.....

Really dislike most of the new colors on the woods coming out. The red is hideous , the silver colors (Adams and others) are visually distracting and makes a clubhead look larger, and the white clubs look like crap after a few rounds.

Having said that, I'm considering using yellow golf balls next year mostly because they're much easier to spot on drives.
