Walden on Lake Conroe m/ship, now with Northgate benefits.

Just rec'd an email from Walden that they have partnered with Northgate so as a Walden Member, you can play Northgate. Not sure the full details, I'm sure it just allows you to play Northgate with an "access" fee, but it makes Walden (one of my favorite courses) that much better of a membership. It's already priced competitive (rates are on their website) for such a great course. I've played Walden several times, probably not as "country club" atmosphere as some of the other private clubs, but a great course, always in good shape, and fun to play. I've played Northgate several times as well, great course, great CC, always great condition.

Yeah, I have a non-resident membership out at Walden as I go to Lake Conroe a lot and that membership costs me all of $128 a month. This is a pretty sweet deal as now we can play Northgate which is much closer to home and the only restriction that I was told about was that you have to play after 12:00 on Saturday and Sundays.

Northgate must be getting desperate. They keep lowering their membership price. Initiation fee is down to only $500 ($385 monthly I think) now, and they just gave access to Walden folks. That tells me they are trying to get traffic. It might be a great deal at that price. I have not played there in 20 years but might go check it out so see how the course is this week. It was nice back in the day. I know the general area is getting pretty ghetto, but the neighborhood is still nice and the golf might be worth the $500 initiation. That's pretty much a disposable membership, and they have 27 holes. If you join and don't like it, you're really not out anything.

I might go check it out this week. I'll report back.

Please do report back Rockinar, I'd be interested, it is a great deal, I played it probably 3 yrs ago, and was playing it fairly regularly then (we did business with a member that was taking us out quite a bit), I love the course, country club, and the nice houses out there, interested in if they are keeping it in the same condition (unlike Raveneaux where I expected alot more and was quite dissapointed).
Being a former long time member at Kingwood, then Walden (Lake Houston) for a short time, I've been looking for a place to join the last yr or so (but really enjoying playing all the different Houston area courses in the mean time). Right now, I'm leaning towards Woodforest, don't think I will be able to find a better deal at $300 a month which includes carts, it's not a CC m/ship or facilities, but great golf course which is what I'm leaning towards.

I did a drive-by today to see how busy it might be on weekends with nice weather. It was somewhat dead. The range was full (small range with maybe 10 or so lanes), but not many people on the course. Just a few groups scattered around. Might be a deal at $500/$385. I'll go talk to them and see if I can get on the course and see what kind of condition they might keep it in, if members take care of the course, etc. I'm already a member somewhere else, but this might be a good bonus for not much money.

I played yesterday for the first time and the course was packed. We still played in under 4 hours but there were people everywhere. This was in the middle of the afternoon. Also, the reason it was opened up to Walden folks and vice versa is because the owner of Walden recently purchased it.

I was there and it did not look busy at all. I was there around 2. There was some people out, but it did not look like anyone was waiting on any groups in front of them. Lots of groups had empty holes between them. Some sections there was no golfers anywhere to be seen.

Thx for the info on the purchase, that should make Northgate even better as I've heard good things about what Mr Mcintyre (going off memory so I may have his name incorrect) did for Walden when he bought it. I bought some passes a couple times for Walden and he (the owner) called me personally after each round (and stayed in touch after that) inviting me to be a member and took the time to cover the benefits of m/ship and improvements of the course, I was impressed with that.

Can't confirm if you got the spelling right but you did get the last name right. He is a great guy and as I've played Walden a ton the course is always in fantastic shape and it is a really fun track. Only imagine he will do good things for Northgate. Good layout and fun track just hope it doesn't get too crowded with people having access to both. Although Sunday was about as pretty as could be and we still played in a decent time even though we were waiting on the group in front of us on most shots (wasn't too bad though). I am about to join a new course closer in as well but am holding on to my Walden membership simply because it is such a good deal.
