recommend an older/new 5 wood at 18* with shallow face for turf play

Honest mistake (type-o), the Srixon is a Z-Steel (not V). Thing is, you could always pop in a longer shaft but, you said that it was too hi-profile. Which brings me to this:

Since you tried a hybrid, I remember a Wilson 1200, system 45, 20° that came stock with a steel shaft in the early '90s. By todays' standards, you could easyly put it in the "hybrid" category.

There was also a Ben Hogan, Big Ben C455, 19°, with ALDILA NV-H, 70-s that was quite awesome for it's time. (Again, late '90s)

DRIVER: Ping G20, 9.5° w/169D-Tour, reg (Back up: Srixon Z-rw, 9.5°, stf)
3+W: Srixon Z-Steel, 12.5°, stock SV3005J, stf. (In rotation: 3W, 14.5°)
5W: Srixon Z-Steel, 18.5° stock SV3005J, stf
IRONS: Ping i20, 3-PW, stock CFS reg @ D2
PUTTER: Ping Craz-E iWi, w/2x20gr weights, Lamkin Jumbo pistol grip
WEDGES: Ping Glide, 54° SS, 60° TS, stock Ping wedge shafts
BALL: Srixon XV
CART: SunMountain V1, STEWARTGOLF Z1
BAG: SM H2N0, PING C-130
BACK UP: Ping S58, 3-Pw, stock CS-Lite, stf, @ D2. (Lofts jacked to S55 specs.)

I know you said you wanted to avoid TEE but consider the TEE Trilogy 5 Wood. I carry one of these (and their 7 Wood as well) and both are high, straight, and forgiving. Enough face depth to be ok off the tee but really designed for the fw and even the light rough. The bottom has a rail of sorts intended to correct slighlty off center or slightly fat strikes. Almost a semi hybrid but without the weighting / hooking issues that hybrids bring into play for some. The best part of it all is you can pick these up for maybe $120 or so new, and probably better than that if slightly used. I have very average or slightly below average swing speed and the 7 wood is about 190 yards for me, and the 5 wood about 205. Mostly carry with only a small amount of roll due to the height.
Do you know your driver SS and what shaft do you have in this please? I'm also low average ( est. around 90ish, quicker transition) and have both Trilogy 3 and 5 and tried XRail 4 and 7. Love the heads, but can't get comfortable with my shaft choices. Trilogy ballooned and Xrail hooks on me. 7W distance was way less than anticipated so I went RBZ. Thanks.

Driver swing speed is right at 90. Driver is ping G15 10.5 degree head and stock TFC149 shaft in R flex. Driver is the best club in the bag for me.

Mizuno MX-700 or 906f4. MX-700 is the most point-and-shoot FW I've ever played, and only my stubborness keeps me trying other FW's.

Totally agree with this. I've not had a fairway wood that is easier to hit than this one.

5 Wood - Mizuno MX700, PF v2

I don't think that Jack could go wrong with the Mizuno MP650. Classic good looks and I really like the Orochi shaft. I also like the G15 and 906F4 a lot, but the MP650 is a little better for me.
MattTheTaff agrees with this. Matt was looking at fairways in the shop today and the mp650 was the stand out stick in looks when compared with 910f, Baffler, Mashie FW, Anser, G20, RBZ, R11, and the Nike offering. Unfortunately I didn't get to hit the thing as this sim was full but Matt will definitely be going back after Xmas to give it a full test.

MattTheTaff is surprised he's considering a mizuno wood.

The Mizuno MP-Titaniums are amazing. Most FW are made of stainless. These are Ti and they have the hottest face of any FW I've ever played. I am by no means a massive swinger but get about 250 off the tee with it. It has a pretty decent face that you can flight into a green or launch way up into the air.

You can find them for cheap. I got one in BST for $75 or so a year ago.

+1 on the i15. Classic look and the UST is a good stock shaft in it.

JP appreciates all the savvy input from the wise GolfWRXers. Thanks to you all. Some really great choices, great insights and again, very appreciated. Jack looks at this search as a quest and realizes the process could be long, filled with let downs. But hey, that is the inherent downside (and upside) to being a club ho. Jack decided to start with the TM V Steel 5 wood. He remembers it fondly from a decade past, and it's cheap. He also liked the look/profile of these in no particular order: Cobra s2, Titleist 906F, TM r7, TEE XCG5 and Mizuno MP650. Jack will pass on the Mizuno MP Titanium as just too long, a bomber as it were. Looking for a certain distance and ball flight, not something just long long long. Again, thanks for the many insights, most of which were really very good. Commendable and appreciated by yours truly. Have a safe and festive holiday from Jack Pearsall.

The best 3 or 5-wood I've played in the past 5-6 years are the Hibore and i15. Both are shallow face and works well from the rough. They are smallish to midsize and have a square face. Real easy to pick off the turf and the distance is better than my 910f's with the same shaft. While I play adjustable hosels for drivers, they do not improve the balance and feel of a fairway metal. I also like the 909fs though they have a taller and deeper face. Hibore and i15s flew under the radar, but I have not found anything that is longer or more playable than those two. And I go thru a lot of clubs.

Jack is wrong if he's not trying the mp titanium because its a bomber. The mp 650 is even longer so you will need to drop that as well.

Jack needs to try the Callaway DET. That will fit your needs.

Cleveland launcher titanium.....I believe it was a 2004 or 2005 offering so it could be had for next to nothing. I find it addresses like a titleist (if you're into that sort of thing) and produces a nice high ball flight. A relatively shallow face as well. JP would only be doing himself an injustice to not gander one of these.

I used to have a TM r7 steel 5 wood. Seems like that might fit what you're looking for. Shafts played very stiff to flex though, so much so that I used an R flex whereas I normally use S.

I have a R7 st 5 wood has been in my bag 4 years, it is by far the easiest wood to hit off deck or tee imo.
