Anyone ever go to watch Farmers at Torrey Pines?

Was thinking of taking a trip to San Diego end of the month to see the Farmers Open. Have been to La Jolla on vacation before, have never played Torrey Pines but walked past the course, looks absolutely beautiful there.

Any tips for a spectator? Is the course set up well for watching the action as a fan? Is it worth paying more for one of the special pavilions with food/etc.?

I have been many times as I live here in SD. Its a great course with lots of great views. If you go on Thurs or Fri, its lots of walking as they play the north and south course. If you go on the weekend its only the south, so its much better on your feet. With Tiger and Phil projected to be there it will be a zoo following those groups so you will want to stay ahead of them. Last year they had lots of tents set up for free swing video's and some free giveaways.

There might be some rain, but that's all relative depending on where you live. What's considered cold for us here is a nice day for others. =)

All in all, you should come and enjoy the weekend.

I have been to this tournament the last five years and really enjoy it. Spectacular views, easy to navigate around the course, always a quality field (even without Tiger) and never seems overcrowded. I have never taken advantage of the pavilions but the Tilted Kilt Terrace (new this year) may be fun. There is an abundance of free public bleacher seating at the greens as well. Hope you make it out.

Our current weather (below) is fairly typical of what to expect when the Farmer's rolls around although just be prepared for some rain as well but still temps usually do not dip below 55* during rain.

Here's a good vantage point tip ( assuming you don't want to be in the bleachers). Stand behind the 7th tee ( South) and you can watch groups tee off and come in on 18..adjacent to 7. Great location on the weekends if you really want to hear the player/caddy interaction. It's really easy to bounce back and forth between those two holes!
