Tour guys trending toward more forgiving equipment?

I think as time goes by there will more guys like singh on tour, its only logical. Jack said that you judge a player on how good their bad shots are, not their best shots. GI irons especially improve results dramatically for mishit shots, so it stands to reason that we should all be using them. Personally since changing from player irons to cg16s, the biggest thing Ive noticed is how far and straight my mishits now go. Instead of being way short I am still reaching the fronts of greens. It saves me shots and taken 4 shots off my handicap. Unless you are an absolute elite ball striker like a hogan or a trevino, using gi irons should be a no brainer, especially so in the longer irons.

Are they looking for forgiveness? Or are the pros responding to GI irons giving them more shot control?

Here's the deal, to me at least. They maxed out forgiveness on GI clubs about 2-3 years ago, maybe G15 irons or so. The trend with GI to some degree (not all) has divided into two camps, distance and control. I see more and more moving to control though. The Razr X, to me, was a big leap forward, making the sole narrower to give a turf interaction more like a smaller club. Cally has continued this, and I even see the G25 doing the same thing.

I say that the next few years will continue to see the gap between forgiveness of SGI and control of blades be closed. Now why wouldn't one want forgiveness and control if he could have both?

Good points. As technology improves, that gap between blades and GI's will continue to shrink until eventually they will blend together somewhere in the middle. We're seeing more forged GI's and GI's that are getting more shotmaking capabilities.

What are you defining current by?

TM has guys playing the MB, Cleveland makes the 588 cb/mb, and Callaway has the MB RazrX.

Those were all last year's clubs, but they will probably be used until replaced by something. Many guys play clubs a few years old.
