TAYLORMADE R1 / MOTORE SPEEDER 6.3TS / TRACKMAN

Great reviews of the shafts - both reviews are extremely helpful. I love the new speeders and have a 6.3 TS on route to test - sounds like it'll compete with the 6.2TS for bag time. Ill post my comparison once I hit a launch monitor.
Me too! I'm excited about this shaft, gonna slap a Ping tip on her and load it in my G25 when it arrives. Based on the numbers I was getting with the G it should really dial in my spin/launch nicely, hope so at least! BB

Can anyone compare the .3 tour spec motore's to to the .2 Non-Tour Spec version? I'm interested in a .3 because I thought the 7.2 TS was too much beast for me, the non-tour spec version is working pretty well though.

Swanry,

Do you know the cpm of the 6.3 x flex?
i don't - but will check it next time i'm in town.

Swanry, A lot of comments on sound and spin....now that you've had the R1 on course, can you comment on these issues? I do realize that yours is "pimped" out but still......
sound is much better than last years offering from TMAG. is it up to par with what i want in sound/feedback - NO. TMAG needs to step up to the plate and dampen the sound - the r1 is a step in the right direction. i do say this knowing they like the driver to have a NOTICEABLE sound. mission accomplished. after hitting the 510tp a couple of weeks ago, you start to realize how much you miss the old sound/feel. that head was PURE.

on the course i didn't have an issue with spin. does it flight higher than most 8* drivers - YES. spin more - NO. again with the r1 my guess is the correct shaft for your swing will make the club. for instance with the r11s/rbz tour i have four shafts. all of the shafts worked great in the rbz tour with little performance differences. in the r11s it was a different story... only two of the shafts worked - and out of the two - one stood out. weird because head weight was the same. SW was the same. in other words you may not be able to use your favorite shaft in this head. i do not find this the case with most drivers. i can plug the .2TS into anything and it will out perform the other shafts... back to topic. on course it was good. the best r series driver that i have put into play performance wise. for me it is longer and more accurate then the 913d3. i know that this may not be the case for everyone...

MUCH firmer feeling in the tip section. i feel that the .3TS has a slightly softer butt section in comparison to the rest of the shaft profile - if that makes sense. reworded the butt section is softer than the mid and tip section. with the .2VC the mid section and tip are softer than the butt.

if the VC is working for you - perhaps stay put - the same firm qualities in the .2TS are there in the .3TS with a slightly softer butt section.

I'm not sure what's in store for 2013... I am open to anything! The only thing set so far is my anser irons (but could be beat out by the xforged or rocketbladez tour) and putter. Actually... Retract. I am a free agent and open to anything. I'm going to test it all and play what fits me best. For years it was Callaway, then recently TMAG with Bridgestone in the mix now and again. I am excited to try it all!

I will try it all. The anser driver is $ and spins or rather doesn't a perfect amount - I hear the g25 spins more... Right now the r1 is pretty good. Not the best I've ever hit (ft tour /j33) but its not bad with the 6.3ts. I can move on it... Great choices for all of us this year - and unlike some, this year actually offers significant benefits to last year.

Swanry, did you get your Fuel TS yet, im very curious to hear your results/comparisons to the 6.3 and 6.2 shafts.

Regards,
D
i haven't yet... think i'm going to wait to put the 6.2ts against the 6.3ts first. the .3ts is really good. may not need to look any further - perhaps just bump up in weight to the 7.3ts for the driver.

i had a chance to play yesterday in the pouring rain - but it was golf. ball wasn't moving very well and it wasn't my best swing day (perhaps the four layers of gear) but the club is good. i was disgusted with my lack of confidence off the tee with my swing... nothing to do with the r1 - but now am working to rectify my problems.

pretty sure i am going to cut this down to 44.5" and run with it until something else beats it out - if it can...

I took an R1 out to the course today.....for comparison sake I play the OG R11 with an Attas 3, set to 11.5 degrees. Took out the TP Phenom 65 shaft wind was blowing about 30mph today so it was hard to gauge distance......I ended up setting it on 12* and opened it 1 degree. I found launched it lower than my R11, similar sound and feel to the R11, but seemed to cut through the wind much better.

Agree 100% about the wind - I find it to launch higher than the r11s.

Did I just totally miss it? I haven't hit .3 or .3 TS and I know you have experience with .2 TS. Heads being equal what are the launch and spin differences? Feel differences? Sounds like this is similar to MRC Kai'li and 'ahina? Pretty similar launch conditions but one being a "smooth" bend with just slightly higher launch and spin.

R1 is pretty good then huh? I hit a little bit this weekend at the PGA Merchandise Demo Day and liked it. Still prefer my fanboy G25 I think... Have you hit the the new Stage 2 hybrids? I loved them. I also loved the X-Hot Pro fairway woods... those were unreal good.

Thanks Swan.

I only gave my R11 S about 2-3 week before switching back to the R11.....there was just something I didn't like about it....the feel or sound was a bit off for me. R1 will be an easy switch for me.

well... AM turned into PM.

i was thinking about the kai'li/ahina comparison and feel that is accurate only perhaps reversed. in my mind it SOUNDS like the comparison could be kiyoshi black to white. the results are pretty much the same just getting there with different feel and butt section. the black would be more .2ts and the white would be more .3ts. granted - i have not hit the kiyoshi white - from the written comparisons i have seen it would hold true... with the ahina/kai'li - the opposite is true. the ahina would be like the .3ts in butt section yet produce more .2ts results. hopefully i am communicating this properly :)

Against Swanry's warning I picked up a 6.3TS to throw in my 913D3 to go against my 7.2X VC (non tour spec) and see how it performed. I had a 7.2 Tour Spec last summer and dumped it after I felt it was too much beast. I got it in last week and only had a range session and a 9 hole outing in freezing 30 degree weather but I felt the 6.3 was a lot more friendly than the 7.2 tour spec. I actually felt it was very similar to my VC 7.2 (non tour spec) to be honest.

I'm going to put it on a launch monitor this week to compare but compared to my VC 7.2 Non-TS, to the naked it eye it had less spin and was a little bit of a higher launch. Great feel, much more user friendly than the .2 TS I had last year.

love those spin numbers! i was low 2100s with the Kaili, the look of the speeder in that head is great!
Yeah, I'm jealous of those spin numbers. My backspin is currently in the 3600-4000 range. Just ordered an Oban Devotion so hopefully that helps a lot.

wanted to give an update as i have two more rounds under my belt since my last post in this thread.

after one or two rounds the graphics (if you remember i felt they added no value to the driver) on the crown hasn't gone anywhere - but the luster of new or different is completely gone. it looks completely normal looking down at the crown - isn't distracting, as i'm expecting to see them. the driver on the course is very good - and the sound is much different from a hitting bay or even an outdoor range. however, much like shooting a shotgun or using a hammer - the noise isn't as loud if you are producing it vs. being next to someone that is.

reading other findings, i am bucking the trend... i feel that the r1 launches higher than the r11 and r11s in the same settings or 8* and produces MUCH lower spin. i would not expect people to comment that this is the longest driver of 2013. however, it is very consistent and there are significant improvements to the previous R series drivers.

one final note... some drivers like to be hit hard more than others. sort of like a golf ball. some golf balls react differently when hit harder - or the performance is more evident. i feel that people with higher swing speeds may see different results than people with slower swing speeds (all things being equal and taking into consideration that the people had all been fit for their equipment). the harder i went after the r1 the better the flight was - flatter and a lower AoD. i was surprised to say the least... sometimes this works against you - as a driver will balloon and spin more...

Have a couple of minutes to quickly put something up. R1 with MOTORE SPEEDER 6.3TS arrived earlier this week. Needless to say - off the record I was not liking the visual attributes of the driver. As it sat on the ground it was starring at me. It wouldn't go away... Regardless of how many times I closed my eyes and opened them - I couldn't shake it. I tried everything...

Yesterday late afternoon on a family trip to town - weather in the mid thirties - I was able to give it a go on TRACKMAN. After warming up with my irons - figuring out how to navigate three layers of clothing and cold golf balls - I unveiled my visual nemesis. As ice flew off the ball - the graphics disappeared into the cold air.

Great numbers. Once the weather gets warmer you should see some better in flight numbers but geez I would take tose any day of the week!!

I love the shaft and HATE the head!!!!! I hate that I hit it straight every time!!!!!! Head still sucks!!!!!!!
i've been pretty tentative lately in my practice - sunday something finally clicked (not saying that i have it figured out - but it freed me up) and i started unloading on the driver. it was very enjoyable. not every drive went where i wanted it - but i went after it with confidence and proper kinetic sequencing. amazing what happens :)

the shaft is that good. love it. in the summer it is going to be amazing. for me - easily kicks out the 6.2ts. the .3ts profile just works for me. i am going to save some $$$ - get a 7.3ts for a FW and halt on purchasing a fuel ts. even if it is a great shaft - i am staying put.

Sweet info Ryan....thanks for sharing it with us and also the 6.3 line.

I just got an extra sleeve yesterday for my R1 and will be trying a Fuel 50.... Not my first choice, but close. I have a serious issue that I must color coordinate a shaft to the color sceme of the R1 to make it look bitchin, thus my list of shafts are limited a touch to,
GD DI ( have one but not going to remove it from the R series all metal sleeve to try it as it works awesome in the R11s)
Attas 6
Fuel 60
Speeder 6.2 black shaft

Once the Fuel 50 is installed, I will then hit the LM with the results. Right now, I find that the 9.5 loft in 1 C is m setting of choice.

Ryan, pretty crazy that these heads sit soooo open as you deloft them. As I posted before, best square at address looking driver I have seen with 10 degrees of loft ever!
Wait a second, time out......Attas 6? Where have I been I've had a 2, a 3, and I've got a Attas 4u that is waiting on an R1 tip so I can install it.....where did the 6 come from? Btw R1 graphics with the 4u shaft may be the worst color scheme for a driver ever.....it won't bother me but it won't be pretty.

What fairway wood are you putting the 7.3 ts in and what putter are or have you been gaming?
right now i don' t have a 7.3ts - but when i do it will be going in a stage 2 or x hot pro. i've decided this year to gear down a little... meaning - reworking/tooling my bag for different distances. where i play you need driver on 90% all winter long. in the summer and spring that number get cut down significantly. a strong three wood to play off the tee still gets you into the trouble areas - so i am going to have a 16.5 stage 2 turned down to 15 or a 15 x hot pro. i could care less about distance - as this will turn into a placement club off the tee and will allow me to go after the longer par 5's IF it gives me the best chance at a lower score. the bomb and gouge theory hasn't worked like it use to when i could play a lot... my wedge game is strong so i have been laying up more even with a green light (if there is trouble) and wedging/putting my way to birdie.
