KJ Choi - What Fuji ZCOM is this?

The ZCOM Six is a lightweight (51,53,56 grams) shaft, 4.5* torque, low spin, mid/high bend and launch. From Fujis site.

 

 

That's the Fit-on-six. There is no ZCOM SIX listed on their site.

 

 

BTW: The Faldo and them commented on the fact that he missed several fairways left yesterday. Wonder if it is the NIKE or the ZCOM.

I believe it's the same shaft.

Take a look at www.fujikuragolf.com and look under ZCom - Fuji now classifies the SIX under the ZComs and may have changed the graphics on the shaft to reflect this reclassification.

I remember seeing this. They switched the SIX over and gave it a graphics rework.

I heard KJ had a hell of a time finding the right shaft for this Nike head. He loved the head as soon as he hit it, but the numbers with his old Ozik shaft were just not working. I heard he went through 18 different shafts till he found the right one.

 

Makes me hesitant in picking up the new Sumo2. Especially if my a Diamana isnt going to be the best for me.

It's the same old shaft with the newer Zcom graphics. It looks like it's heavily tipped based on how much of the graphics are still showing below the grip :)

 

My clubmaker just started employing a similar strategy for his high swing speed players who are fighting the left side. He's been taking an ultralight shaft like the Six or Speeder 553 and tipping it heavily (1.5-2") and then installing in a high loft head. He said it's been pretty successful, and it looks like KJ's taking a similar route.

The "FIT-ON" series of shafts is gone.

 

 

 

This series was enveloped by the ZCom line for 2007. The post a few blocks above has it right.

 

 

 

The ZCom's now consist of the BW, MW, TW, the SIX, and the PRO95.

 

 

 

(The shafts are all black with either blue, silver, or red/orange near the but end and white lettering on the black part.)

 

 

 

Nothing changed about the design of the shafts. Just the graphics.

I always liked how about every 3 or 4 months you would hear a rumor that Bob was closing, that seems like it's been going on for years.

 

I hear that all the time. Bob is a good guy.

 

Anyway. What other shafts did KJ try in the Nike?

It is not uncommon to test numerous shafts in a new driver head. Especially if you are experimenting with different flex and loft combinations looking for a certain ball flight like KJ was. Wanted to take one side of the fairway completely out of play. If you get a SUMO2, I would definitely try the Diamana in it. I haven't found a better shaft for my SUMO yet and I have tried 5 or 6 now.

I use and X flex SIX (blue, tour spec and zcom versions) and tip them 2" in all my TM Tour 425 heads. The results are awesome. I get the higher trajectory I want and reduce the torque and stiffen the shaft further by taking off the tip. Great lightweight shaft with higher launching characteristics. I can add plenty of weight to the head and feel where it's at, at all times, throughout the swing.

 

BTW: the shaft pictured in KJ's driver is definitely the Zcom SIX.
