Driver Shaft Recommendations.

Afternoon, Fellas!

 

I'm looking to try out a new shaft in my driver this spring and wanted to get everyone's opinions and recommendations. Looking STRICTLY X Flex. Upper 70's - Mid 80's weight. Low spin/launch. Stable tip. etc. etc. Not worried about distance, mainly stabililty with not horrendous feel.

 

I currently play an Anser 8.5* with a Speeder(non tour spec) 7.2X tipped right at about 5/8". Just isn't stable enough and want to try something new. I know many guys will say get the tour spec, and yes I'm highly considering that 7.2X or even the 8.2X being that it's a little heavier. However I want to get some other options out there as I haven't tried many other shafts other the Fuji's and UST's and a black tie in an Adams Fast 12LS(wasn't that impressed but then again it was only a 6M3). Haven't ever played an Aldila or Diamana in the driver but would like to hear some recommendations.

 

Other than those main brands I pretty much have no experience with any of the other brands out there and would definitely like to hear what else is out there?..Accra..Axe..DI or BB if properly tipped..Oban..Miyazaki..let's hear it....

If you want a cheap option. UST mamiya axicore core green

It levelled out my ball flight dramatically giving me 10-15 yards,

My previous shaft was a Miyazaki kasula indigo

Great shaft just sent the ball a little ballonish for my likening

It was essentially a great waste of $$$$$, 400 as apposed to 100. It' will indeed take something special to knock the axicore out of my d3

Ahina 80X, maybe. I play the Ahina 70x in an Anser 110ish SS. It feels great, not boardy, easy to load. Same sort of ball flight, for me as a 7m3, but it feels a lot smoother, imo...

I've played the green 75x tipped 1" in an r11 a few years back. Good combo. Feel was lacking a bit. Also tried the tour spx vts black 75 series. Wasn't as stable as I hoped but I should have gone with the TX.

Outta my league with the heavier weight stuff, but I have an Anser 8.5 with Miyazaki B. Asha 4, and it is unbelievably good in this head. Feels soft to waggle, but holds up surprisingly well to aggressive swings.

yeah the B.Asha defiantly not the shaft for you...

MRC --i think the Ahina 70x or 80x would be best. I dont think the D+ would really be a great fit without a decent ammount of tipping.

OBAN --The black 75x may work best but also consider the white and devotion

FUJI--I wish they made the Fuel TS in heavier weights as i think that would be perfect for you. That being said the fuel feels great so maybe its worth a try 7x obviously.

Aldia--I think aldila makes some pretty decent shafts, but i don't think any of their normal offerings would be good for you, but i have some of those cool looking tour issue tourX flex RIP shafts floating around.

Miyazaki--A really cool company, but it does get confusing with ALL the options. Kusala black comes in 8x i think...

GD-- The BB8x or 7X may be what your looking for. I haven't hit their newest shaft so i dk what to tell you on that.

UST--I actually think you may like a Proforce Black 7x or 8x tour spx a bunch.

Ive hit so many matrix shafts but i really cant remember what does what, as they also fit into the "confusing the hell out of you" business model.

Definitely helps..

It's pretty much up in the air for me but I know the speeder 7.2X or 8.2X would be a very safe bet for me. I just want to entertain what other options there are out there. I've played the vts tour spx black 7X, wasn't really that impressed and should have went with the 7TX. Truth be told my favorite shaft to date was the speeder 7.1 X. Granted this was a few years back and I wasn't as into equipment back then as I am now and only had it tipped about 1/2" but it performed pretty well and felt quite good. Personally it was very comparable in launch and spin as my 7.2X now but felt much much better. With the right amount of tipping the 7.1 or even 8.1 would be a good fit.

Play the whiteboard 83X in my 3 wood, not stout enough for me. That's about all the experience I've had with the MRC. Play a VS proto 95X hybrid tipped 1 1/2" in my hybrid and really impressed. Stable anti-left machine.

Most intrigued by the Tour BB 7 or 8X with sufficient tipping. New aldila and .3 speeder TS and Fuel TS have my interests.

Yo rosco next time you come to town have Sweezy hit me up. I might have a few options for you to try in my Adams head.
Also I second an ahina 80x. I hit the 60x tipped half an inch and that thing felt so boardy. Also It's cheaper so it wouldn't be a bad experiment but try a ust v2 80x. My buddy swings close to what you do and he has a 70x tipped a half inch. Came from a made for titleist ahina 82x tipped an inch and a half and it lowered his spin about 600 rpm and brought his ball flight down.

Also I'll let you know What i think of the 6.3. I'm putting a stiff tipped a half inch in my super ls head as we speak lol!!!!

I'll probably be coming over within the couple weeks. Got some super peening blue x's coming in to put in the J40's and really don't want to waste the $ here to get them installed. Also got a Anser 3 wood head w/ adapter coming in next week to shaft up. Let me know about the .3 TS!

Here is my experience.

I scored a Tour Issued FTiZ a couple years back with an X flex Oban Devotion 7 in cause I wanted to try the shaft. It was put together on the Van and has a tour clock ferrule on it. I have not hit anything better that has been out for 3 years. It continues to stay in my bag, but I do extensive testing each year and do purchase all the new stuff and try different shafts.

I have bought 7 Devotions since then, a couple 65 grammers that were tipped an inch, but could not get anything close to this.

Come to find out mine has been tipped almost 2 inches, which explains a lot.

I average about 117 swing speed and have a quick transition with lag. This is the best low launch/low spin shaft I have ever hit.

Very expensive but you get what you pay for. I have a 120+ swing speed and have struggled keeping my ball flight down. I hit a G15 with a X-Flex UST Avixcore 77g. I chose this shaft before I knew anything about shafts. I figured any Xflex would work for me and it was the cheapest option.

A couple days ago I hit a Amp Cell with the Tour AD P9003 and I was shocked. I couldn't believe the stability and the decreased ball spin. It is very nice. I am ordering the Cobra Amp Cell Pro w/ the Tour AD P9003 once I get the $$$. good luck

Wouldn't the blue be too high launch for you?

I would have thought that if you wanted a low launch shaft, you'd want the red, not the blue.
