GyroSwing Review

I recently made the trip down to work with Geoff Jones and one of the training aids that he likes is the GyroSwing by SKLZ. I had the club a little inside on the take away and then across the line at the top, so Geoff had me use the GyroSwing a little while I was down there. I liked it, so I ordered my own.

I have worked with it for four days now and am already seeing some great results. The things I like best about it are more on the downswing than the backswing. It is helping my takeaway, but the best part has been the release that I have struggled with so far on the long clubs. So far, nothing has really given me the feel of what the rotational release feels like with a driver. I have done a ton of 9 to 3's with wedges and 9 irons, and I have those shots down. But, when I picked up anything over a 6 iron, it was low hook city and the driver was hideous. I was becoming fairly discouraged but have stuck with the 9 to 3s etc.

Well, after working with the GyroSwing, and feeling what the club shaft and club face should be doing to stay "on plane" and "square" according to the Gyroscope, I have finally gotten over the driver hurdle. Today, I hit my driver better than I have in my life. I took the GyroSwing to the course and used it before I stepped on the range. I tried to keep that feeling the whole way around the course and it worked, I only missed one fairway today and the ball was coming out of the middle of the face every swing.

The rechargeable batteries do not last all that long and that is really the only downside I see to this training aid. I have had my 11 year old use it twice, and he too immediately started to set the club better and swing it on a better plane in both directions.

I have so many training aids from over the years I couldn't begin to count them. This GyroSwing ranks up there with my all time favorites and has helped me more than probably any other training aid in getting the feelings of being on plane.

If you are sitting on the fence, having trouble with plane issues etc, check this thing out. You can find them used on ebay for $45 or so, but I went ahead and bought a new one for like $95. This will be a tool I will be using four or five days a week if not more for a while. It has been a game saver as I was really having doubts that I would ever be able to hit a driver with the Slicefixer release. Well, now I have a to of new found confidence because the GyroSwing gave me the correct feel of keeping the face square vs the snap hooks I was threatening the neighbors with.

Is it all slow motiom movements with it?
I'll have to dig mine out... kind of forgot about it.

I use a fairly normal paced backswing and thd downswing can be pretty quick as well. I do not go full bore, but I do swing it. I bought some new rechargeable batteries today and they are a little better than the ones that came with it. Now I have two sets of batteries so I can keep one set charging while I use the others.

I tried it when I went to see Geoff also and didn't really like it. To me, it felt like I was way too handsy through the impact zone...which is exactly what you don't want in a pivot driven release. I will say that if you have trouble feeling proper forearm rotation in the backswing should feel like, then it works very well.

I have been curious about this aid for awhile. The reviews I read said that if it feels handsy at the release, you are not pivoting hard enough. Is that the case? If so, I think I might get one to swing at night when I am bored at home.

That is how I use it, that if it feels handsy then I am doing just that, not keeping the hands passive enough and turning more, holding the face off. I know Geoff said it is probably the single best aid for his swing on the market.
