Another "help me pick a driver" thread.

So, simply put, I need some advice on picking out a driver. I know I know, another one of these toolbags asking for help picking a driver! But here goes...

I've been out of the game a bit the past couple years, especially last year as I had 2 surgeries (3 in last 3 years). I hurt my wrist at work a few years back, and had it pretty much reconstructed last May. After having pins iit for 6-7 weeks, I hit the rehab as hard as I could. Another surgery to remove my thyroid in th fall sort of put the kabash on my golf season. I was able t get a few times, and the game was decent.

A bit about my game. Formerly a +2 and played to scratch for a better part of the last 20 years or so. I was a BIG hitter prior to surgery, and comfortably had an 118-122 club head speed, with plenty on reserve. My transition is relatively smooth, for as fast as I swing, as I am 6'2" and pretty athletic. I have NOT been on a launch monitor for a couple of years, but I have been rehabbing the crap out of this wrist all winter long, and feel at least 95% and ready to go. I launch the ball rather low, and it has been a bit of a concern in the past. I am a bit of a digger with my irons, and my miss is left. I definitely fight the hooks more often than not.

Check my sig. My current gamer is the Cobra hs9x, with a crappy graphite design purple ice in x flex. And it has been the best driver for me by far, and I have tried plenty (up til a year or 2 ago when I stopped playing as much).

I still have a near brand new PING i15 that I got fitted for a few years back, and it didn't work out. The #s on the LM were off the charts better than any offering at the time (closest I think was ADAMS 9032).
I do like the look of the new Anser though, maybe ill give it a closer look, thx.

Find yourself a place with a launch monitor and alot of options. People tend to suggest what works best for them but it is always different for everyone. I would suggest something with a bit of a higher loft if you naturally launch low.

If you're not in a hurry look for some outside OEM Demo days in your area. That way you can try different heads and shafts. Most importantly you can really see what the ball is doing.

Thanks, but that will have to wait a couple months at least...Mother Nature ain't to agreeable here in NY in February, lol. Good idea though. Probably gonna have to be a LM for now.
Was on the driveway last night swinging a broom, and then graduated to a weighted 35" Adirondack baseball bat from when I played ball many moons ago. Feeling pretty good! Bring on spring!

I swing a little slower than you at 112 SS, and also fight the lefts. I went with the Anser ('ahina 70x shaft) as it was the lowest spinning longest club I hit on the monitor after testing over 10 different drivers. The Anser gets the ball up well and has a slight fade bias, so I've found it to be great for someone to fights hooks. A close second was the razor fit extreme, so I'd recommend giving that a look also. You might also like the xhot - I thought the ball flight was way too high for me, but I tend to hit the ball high as is, so you might like it since you mentioned low flight was something you were concerned about.

Sounds like it makes sense with xhot. The Anser seems to be getting much love here on WRX, as is the Covert. Thx
