They didn't give her reason?
Her reason fo missing it? I didn't hear. They only mentioned it at the very end of the API press coverage.

And that's really all they said, was that she was dq'd.

Overslept. http://www.lpga.com/golf/news/2013/3/media-alert-statement-from-tseng.aspx

Per LPGA regulations, Yani Tseng was withdrawn from the Kia Classic after missing her pro-am time on Wednesday morning. The following is a statement from Tseng:

“I’m embarrassed to admit that I wasn’t feeling well last night and accidentally overslept and missed my tee time for the pro-am this morning. I was extremely excited to compete this week to defend my title at the Kia Classic and to try to regain the No. 1 spot. This was an unfortunate mistake and I want to apologize to Kia, my sponsors and all of the fans. The Kia Classic is one of my favorite tournaments and I have so many great memories in San Diego. I can’t wait to come back here next year.”

Yani is an adult and is accountable for her actions.
Yani has a road manager (I spoke with her in Vanc last yr).....but she can't act as babysitter too to make sure Yani wakes up on time.

We heard recently that Yani was finding the pressure of #1 to be unproductive....she must really now have self pressure .......she's let down a lot of people on this unfortunate incident.
Oh well, life goes on.....get over it and prep for the 1st major.

The punishment seems a bit harsh. In the end the fans are the ones who are missing out on seeing her compete the whole week.
The pro-ams are very important to the events. The Ams pay a lot of money to play with whomever.

There should be at least some accountability. Maybe a fine would be better served, I don't know

Sorry. It's their Tour and they can run it as they see fit. But that's just a little harsh. There are many things the LPGA Tour could do to have Yani atone for this....Junior Clinics, Specials event with sponsors.....

I realize they dole out the harsh punishment to keep Players from making it a habit to miss Pro-Ams.

But it seems a little much to me.

The Furyk Rule.

At least the LPGA makes an attempt to enforce the pace of play. I'm thinking the ladies might just be a little tougher than the guys.

Both statements are very true. And I think the idea of a fine is the way to go. Otherwise, you are still hurting the tournaments which seems counter-productive to me.

I fell sorry for those girls when Yani gets it turned around!

If I'm Yani I'd be showing up at the tournament anyway to root for the other girls, maybe hang out a bit with the group she was supposed to play with. Good PR and just the right thing to do.

Wasn't it Furyk who scheduled a day for his group after he missed his time or am I misremembering?

I think the punishment is spot on. It's why you rarely hear of a player missing one. ;)

At the shark shootout each amateur forked over 25k for a two day pro am.

They should let her play but have her forfeit some or all world ranking points earned and maybe take a portion of prize money and give it to the tournament charity for the week. I agree it hurts the tournament more than it hurts the player. Could you imagine Tiger being DQ'd for missing a pro am. The tournament would flip out as well as the network for the ratings nightmare.

Don't know but wouldn't doubt it. Furyk is known as a pretty stand-up guy, isn't he?

In Asian culture it`s about honor and saving face.
I gotta believe Yani personally apologized to the Kia execs and others.

Yani does have her fans (2012 CWO there were 50 fans waving Taiwan flags watching her) so I hope she shows up on Thurs-Fri to meet some fans, sign autos and give away some swag.

As lead sponsor...I think Kia likely pulled Yani. Stacy & MW for their pro-am groups....b4 the pro-am draw.

The problem I see with the fines is that many of the better (and richer) players would choose to pay the fines. Then you would just have a Pro Am loaded up with journeyman players and people aren't going to pay the high bucks to play with.

Was there a replacement for her Pro-Am group after the second hole or were her left to play without a Pro.

Wouldn't one of the alternate players just fill in? I know it's different in this case but you're going to have girls getting sick, having family emergencies, etc. There must be some way they handle those kind of situations. I know it wouldn't be ideal but at least the group could still participate in the pro-am.
