Tom start of 2014 final high school season WITB

I am now a senior in high school, #3 on my school team with low score in 3 of our past 5 tournaments. I used to be really into basketball and rugby but concussions have limited my participation in contact sports, so two years ago I started to get into golf competitively. I started as a 16 but am now down to a 5.5 4 in the Canadian Handicap Network, (under Thomas Robson if you want to check). I have a lot of natural power as I am 6'3 and 215 pounds leftover from my rugby days.

My bag is:

Driver through wedges have Red Golf Pride VDR's with two wraps

Taylormade R1 set too 3 clicks closed, 9.5* upright with an Aldila NVS shaft at 44 1/4" tipped an 1 1/2"

Cleveland Classic XL 15* with the stock Matrix shaft.. My pro tested several other options but none were performing like this shaft.

Nickent 3DX 18* UST Proforce V2 I play this club short (39.5") and more like an iron, perfect for attacking long par 3s.

TM Burner 2.0 4,5 stock shafts

TNT T3 Forged 6-PW with True Temper S300's, you may notice that these are alot shorter, but I never hit 6 iron and down more then 75% and my pro feels I am more accurate with my hands lower.

Ping Gorge 52* 56* with KBS Tours and SM4 60* with a DG Spinner

I know about that weather eh? this snow is slowly making me crazy, I can only do so much putting on a carpet before I start taking full swings with the putter.

Hopefully the range opens by mid april.

made a few minor changes to my bag, added a rocketballz 18* 3hybrid to replace the 3 wood as well as a 3 and 4 hybrid (makes life easier)

last wednesday I shot an 85 on a high scoring day as the 5th seed on my team to finish t20 and qualify my team for our high school championships, which I am very happy about.

I am looking at a deep faced 3 wood to take off the tee and replace my driver since I just cannot hit it right now
(did not take the driver out of the bag once for the 85)

[color=#282828]Playing in a junior match play event I got to the quarters as the 18th seed, playing against one of the top seeds. We traded holes through 9, ending the front AS (I never lead on the front.) he then won 10, 11, 12, and 14 to go 4 up with 4 to play. 15 is a 350 yard par 4 uphill, front bunker, he plays driver I play fairway wood. I hit into the back bunker, he was front bunker, I got out of mine he didn't. 3 up. 16 is another par 4, 420 yards. We both hit drivers, i hit the green and lag putt for a conceded par, he misses his par. 2 up. 17 is a 500 yard dogleg left par 4, but its downhill, I hit driver he hits fairway. we both hit greenside bunkers, we both make our sand saves. He wins 2&1. [/color]

Titleist 909 d2 10.5* w/ a diamana whiteboard 65g in, TM Burner Superfast 2.0 8.5* out. (Titleist has wayyy more roll and is more controllable)
Taylormade V-Steel 18* 5wood with true temper gs85 steel shaft in, TM Rocketballz 3 hybrid out. (more controllable club)

a Vokey 60* coming in
a Kenny Giannini G2 Chubby coming in to replace my Studio Stainless Newport that replaced my TM Ghost 110 (which i'll review once I get it)

I played some really weird tournament golf lately
making cuts then scoring high, scoring well but missing cuts, three putting down the stretch, all the really bad stuff

I have been asked to go to MTA in New Brunswick and try-out for the golf team. My other option is U of T and just walking on there or Western and walking on there (I have a few buddies from my club on the Western team)

Those will be my three main choices for University next year.

I have been keeping busy up here in the great white north by hitting in domes and putting on my carpet, anxiously awaiting the days of spring and summer to come quickly.

Dads hoping to bring me down to Florida or Arizona over the christmas break to get some rounds in :)

Nice setup kid, and congratulations on your school prospects. If I could recommend while you consider your options make sure you feel comfortable or will like the city you'll be moving to, and if you have a major picked be certain that the school offers it, otherwise scratch it off of your list.

My school season closes out starting next week with 5 tournaments in 5 weeks. It's hard to think about golfing next week when I can look out and see remnants of snow in my backyard.
I've since changed my bag a lil bit.

My irons are now Ping S57's with True Temper S300's hard-tipped an inch
I've ditched woods and now go exclusively hybrids (as you can see in my signature)

I hope to update this thread when I have time between school/golf (you may have noticed I don't post as much on GolfWRX)

I have accepted my offer to the University of Toronto, and hope to walk on to the Golf Team next year.

I've been working on grooving my swing all winter in a dome and am certain I have improved. My only worry is that my first round since December will be next mondays practice round.

practice round monday of 2 weeks ago went well for my first round of the year (78, the worse part was the putting unfortunately)

being a stupid teenage boy tuesday I was working out and tweaked something in my shoulder.

first tournament of the year I exploded into a 95, couldn't putt, and my shoulder was bugging me.

my second tournament this week I barely got around the course and staggered home with an 88, really not playing well.

Coach has dropped me from the scoring team until I get back to playing properly and my doctors got me coming in this weekend to see if the shoulders just a strain or if he should be checking for tears.

my home course has probably 18 temporary greens to start the season ( a lot of canadian courses got hammered this winter)

Doctor said it wasn't anything more serious then a sprain, so I've been playing through it and have managed to play better and avoid pain by taking the driver out of the bag for now.

improved to 77-78-74-81 in my last 4 rounds (one tournament) using a dosage of tylenol and minimizing the full swing practice.

thanks for the kind words and I will be taking more legitimate time off once the big bulk of tournament season is over.
