Last time I checked Tiger never graduated from Stanford and MJ never graduated from UNC. Are you saying they're not allowed to show school pride? It's not like Rickie flunked out. He chose to go to school there, represented them in athletics and used the school to build his career. Why would he not want to show pride?

I'm not sure why but for me personally I think that in order to really ever have or show school pride you should finish your work there. Out of respect for the school.

I say go for it with the clothing! Rock whatever you like. I grew up in the 80's, sideways haircuts, florescent clothing. Yeah, I look like an idiot in my old photos. But man did I ever have fun.

School colors are what they are. As you can tell from the avatar, I'm limited in my school color selection when supporting them. Yes, I have orange pants. Yes, I have maroon pants. I choose not to wear all one color, but don't hate on Rickie for his monotone. If OSU had another predominant color, it might not be ALL orange...

With the younger guys, its really good to see strong school spirit. Can't knock him for that, at all.

Personally, I think Rickie's all-orange getup is a little much for the PGA Tour. You have some school fanatics out there on Tour, Horschel comes to mind, but he just has grips done. No need to go head-to-toe orange for Rickie is support a school he went to for two years. It may be his favorite color but it is for some attention, too.

 

I think an all-orange getup for your HS match is awesome. Don't sweat that dude. Even better that you just smoked him.

Last I checked, you are allowed to have the same taste in clothing as another human being on this planet. There is nothing wrong with that. I can't believe that people are actually suggesting that you wear different clothes. It's obviously not affecting your golf game...

It really is refreshing to see someone so young with such a great perspective. To be in high school and not be worried about what others think about you (when it comes to this inconsequential things in life, like clothing) puts you way ahead of the game. Obviously, there are quite a few people out there who could learn a thing, or two, from you.

Stay classy and walk your own path... in whatever clothes you want to wear. That alone can take you far in life.

I was in an interesting spot in HS, in the smart classes and friends with the "nerdy" kids early on but also friends with the cool crowd because of girls and sports. Looking back on it 10+ years later, man I wish I had just kept my head down and not given a s*** what anyone thought. It's tough when your in the situation but you will be better off down the road for sure. I'm sure that dude is just one of the "cool" kids that was pissed about getting beat, hence resorting to making fun of you.

If he really didn't care, he wouldn't have posted here looking for people to pat him on the back. No one is saying "change your clothes." They are saying, deal with it, or change your clothes. Be who you are, but don't whine about it. Fake self-assurance is smelled quickly by kids, and they'll feast on it. He can't wait to denigrate someone for thinking he looks foolish, but also can't wait to post in a thread talking about a woman's looks. Pick one. Looks matter, or they don't.

Listen young'un--be who you are. If that's how you want to dress, do it. Do it with grace and style. Be strong about it. Own it. Let it be you. But don't complain when someone gives you a hard time over it. Life is short. Soon enough we'll all be worm food. What shirt you wear, and what a toolshed thinks about it, mean nothing.

That descibes just about every teenager I've ever met. That tension and internal contradiction is part of being an adolescent as far as I'm concerned.

Agree with your recommendation though: Save the battles with others for things you either cannot change about yourself...or won't change about yourself without feeling like you've bartered away your self-respect.

If you choose to pick a fight by doing something that people will naturally see as provocative, then don't act suprised when people start pulling out hammers when you've chosen to be the nail that sticks out.

This was my thought too. My team was always uniform. Same bag, same shirt, similar pants/shorts, same hat.

But when it gets to the extent that the kid will go out of his way to tweet about you looking like a d-bag that's when I got a bit offended. Remember, this post was not about how I should have expected the snickers, but rather how my opinion on Rickie's orange outfit has changed. I am not going to post the pic because some people might get offended by d-bag spelled out, and I don't want to risk getting suspended again.
