Traditions Golf Club at Texas A&M

Made my 4th trip to Traditions today. This is becoming one of my favorite layouts that I have played. Excellent course with great green complexes but the greens have never been very good. Anyone have any ideas on what is going on there? I would think the members can not be too happy with the conditions.

 

It's a Nicklaus design and I bet they would be upset to see the condition of the putting surfaces.

the greens used to be fabulous, but they have run their course; yes, pun intended...they are changing them to Champion Bermuda...project begins June 1 and is projected to be complete August 1

What is the grass type now? Ive been up there a few times, Im a member thru ClupCorp and love the layout but have never seen the greens in very good shape. Im assuming you are a member there, what is the construction costs being passed onto the members?

They are currently Emerald Bermuda...and a "shout-out" to the ownership of the club, "the members will not be burdened with an assessment; it's the right thing to do..."

That is an outstanding move by the ownership.....That place is too great of a layout and the green complexes/surroundings are so well designed that having bad greens looks bad on everyone involved. I cant wait to get back up there after the new greens are in, Im putting it on my calendar and guess Ill have to give Pebble Creek a few rounds in the meantime.

I had our head pro call Miramont a few weeks ago and it was going to run us $250/man with cart/guest/caddie fees.

Word on the street is they are going to mow some temporaries while they get the new greens in shape.

Briarcrest CC is a nice option too, it's semi-private.

Yes; this is correct. They will create temporary greens "in front" of the true green. For those wanting to play looong, they're encouraged to play back a set of tees.

Good to see some fellow Ags here! I love Traditions - great course, and when I played 4 years ago the greens were immaculate. Granted, that was 4 years ago, but I would love to play again!

Just completed the Hullabaloo Member-Guest at Traditions...the new greens are salty delicious & SUPER f a s t ! ! !

What would it cost a non member to play there? I pass through from time to time and would not mind getting a round in out there.

I'm back in Aggieland for the season opener this weekend; played Traditions again today and the greens have really come in...they're rolling soooo smooth!

I am going to be in that area in mid September with a group looking to play golf. I how do I go about getting on this course?
