Bushnell v3 vs Leupold gx-3i Range Finder

You had the GX 4i and you could have changed the face plate and gotten rid of the club selection (or done that in the set up) and slope feature.

From what you have written it is obvious you have never owned the Leupold.

It appears you cant go far wrong with either company. If you want to know you have the best, apparently you need to try both brands, which I haven't. I have a bushnell 1600 bought used a year and a half ago. It's fine. Can't imagine liking a rangefinder much better, except for maybe a smaller one like the v3 my father has. But leupold has few complaints as well. It's probably strictly a preference thing.

Did you look at the box before you bought the Leupold? Why not just go with the non-slope then?
There are only two buttons on my GX-3i and I have yet to activate a feature on it inadvertantly. One button on top to turn it on and press it again to get the yardage or keep it pressed to scan yardages back and forth. Very simple. Changed the battery on it once this season and its been rock solid for me. Only complaint was the battery showed full life on the indicator and it just died suddenly. But the battery lasted about the same amount of time that the 9V did in my Bushnell, so no complaints otherwise. Took the old 1500 Pinseeker out when the Leupold battery died and it was funny how slow the yardages returned compared to the Leupold. It's ridicuolous in that it's half a second, but it was noticeable. 1500 still works great for what its worth and locks on and gives the "Pinseeker" indicator on screen that its locked on MUCH more often than the Leupold. "Jolt" to me seems like it will just drain the battery prematurely when an on-screen indicator like the Pinseeker has suffices nicely.

You could have solved your problem by either changing the set up or the face plate. Not leupolds fault you couldn't do either.

Changing the face plate does not change the fact that the GX-4i is not allowed for play under the Rules of Golf. Specifically, rounds played with a GX-4i (with or without faceplate) are not allowed to be entered in the USGA Handicap System.

I simply stated I didnt like the Leupold. This was a thread asking one or the other. I gave my opinion. I could care less about the face plates. If you like yours great. I hated it. Try and troll in another thread.

Their intention was to use the faceplate trick to combine a USGA compliant device and non-compliant slope device in one package. After they brought the product to market the USGA turned them down and declared the device was not allowed with or without faceplate. Leupold appealed the ruling and the appeal was turned down.

So until further notice (and don't hold your breath) you can not use a GX-4i under the Rules of Golf nor can you submit rounds using the GX-4i for handicap purposes. So it is indeed pointless as it turns out, but Leupold rolled the dice hoping for a favorable ruling.

All this was true as of a few months ago. I have no reason to believe there has been any recent change of heart on the USGA's part but I suppose it's possible...

Would be nice to know how this is different from the 4i once and for all. End all the speculation. I thought the slope feature in the 4i2 what in the faceplate itself ( thus making it legal), but from the link, it doesn't look any different to me than the 4i. Trickery on Leupold's part?? I doubt it, but who knows for sure at this point.

I also need to know if the 4i2 is legal for handicapping and tourneys. I am in the market for a unit now. Though the 4i2 seems to be a lot more expensive, without much return.
