Motore Speeder TS 7.2 Review

Recommended Posts

Well, I just recieved it today so I have only a little air time with it, but I thought I would give my initial thoughts. There are many reviews on this shaft, and mine isn't anything new really. I had this shaft tipped 1" installed in the 913 tip, which went in the D3 7.5. The shaft this replaced was a D+ 82g X flex. The length is about 44 5/8", swinng weight came in at D4.5 with the heaviest weight and one strip of lead tape.

This is without a doubt the stiffest shaft I think I have ever hit. I wanted something stiffer than the D+ because when I really go after the D+, the soft butt section feels like the club wraps around my back which I do not like. The flight is lower than the D+ for sure too, by quite a margin. With no Trackman data etc, all I have is on course comparisions and this is what I found.

Distance - it was not as long but the ball wasn't traveling today as it was cool. So the carry was shorter, it flew lower, but not too low, but was rolling out well and the angle that the ball was landing on was very low, which is also better than the D+.

Side Spin - it certainly appears to have less side spin. The ball was not curving much at all with the exception of a couple of toe shots that turned over but not nearly as much as the D+ would have on the same miss. Flight is much straighter which is what I was looking for.

Feel - VERY VERY STIFF. I almost felt like it required my really stepping on it hard. There was ZERO feel of the club not staying with me, wrapping around my neck etc, this shaft was right there at all times. Very firm feeling and some people would call it harsh, but I like a stiff feeling club.

My favorite thing about this shaft is it was ANTI-left. I could aim down the left side and swing as hard as I wanted and the ball refused to go left. That I absolutely loved. By the end of the evening, I was just aiming down the left side and swinging as hard as I wanted and it flew pretty straight to a slight fade. I never lost it right once. I probably hit it 20 times or so, as I just played 9 and hit more than one tee shot on every hole, sometimes three.

Overall, I still have to get used to it. I am going to have to go at it pretty hard, which is not a bad thing. I do not have to worry about it going left, which is a great thing. It is stiff, low spin, and flies straight, but I am not sure it is going to be longer than the D+, but I will trade straight with low spin for ten yards, if it is even shorter which I really won't know until I play more with it and it is warmer than today.

I am surprised that you think it is that much stiffer than the 8A4 I know you played quite a bit. You probably didn't have the 8A4 tipped that much and playing that short either? This is without a doubt the best shaft I have ever hit for playing a fade. Very consistent on the cut shot where other shafts try to drift or shoot up a little, this one is just flat and tight every time. If it's kind of cool/damp give it a week or two, when the fairways start to harden up you'll see what that shallow AoD does.

I can vary between 114 on slow days to 118 on fast days. The last time I was on a Flightscope I was averaging right at 117 with ball speeds in the low 170's mostly. I think I have picked up some ball speed anyway with the new swing changes because the ball is going farther with all of the clubs.

The 8A4 is very stiff and you are correct, I didn't have it tipped and played it at 45". It was an anti-left shaft for sure. The TS is tipped an 1". I really liked the 8A4 in my fairway wood and I am thinking about putting it back in my 3 wood now. I am also thinking about getting a 913 with a TS 82 though as well. I think the 8A4 and the TS 7.2 feel very similar in that they are both stiff in the butt and tip. I could hit the 8A4 higher though than I hit the TS today, but in all fairness I am swinging differently and I have only hit this TS once. But I didn't feel like I was ever going to hit it high, I almost felt like I needed to tee it higher.

Lol, the first time I hit the speeder last year I was like what the hell was that, it came out twice as low as I was expecting and had a very unique feel/bend profile. I was expecting it to be another whiteboard type shaft but I was wrong. Very butt stiff as well as tip stiff like you said and that threw me off at first. I got my swing and setup adjusted to hit and haven't looked back. I hit mine today (7.2 TS tipped 1/2" @ 45") and yeah nothing but bullets. I think I stick with the 913 I am going to go back to the 6.2 TS and it will be perfect. I don't have the speed guys like you and Tai have so the 6.2 is a better fit at about 110-112 mph. Interested to hear how it works out the second time out.

I went with the 8.3X in the 3 wood because I've read the tip is a touch softer and the shaft launches a little higher than the 8.2 ts. Recommend putting the .3 in fairways if you like the .2 in the driver. I use the 6.2X in the 913 D3. I went with 9.5 driver to get the launch up with this shaft. Definately the straightest ballflight when comparing shafts. I didn't find the butt section to feel as stiff as the OP mentioned, but that could be a difference in 6.2 vs 7.2 along with weight.

UPDATE - LOVIN IT.

Played 27 today and hit quite a few on the range, got more comfortable with it, and now it doesn't feel too stiff, I can launch it a little higher downwind when I want but not too high at all, and the side spin reduction is what is my favorite part. It is not curving much, with the exception of when I toe it and it still doesn't go way left. I love the feel too. I thought it would take me more time to get used to it, but I feel completely comfortable with it now. I do not think it is any longer, maybe even 5 yards shorter than the D+ was, but it is straighter, flies lower, and feels better. I think it is going to fly slightly shorter and roll longer. I like the trajectory much better too. Now I can't wait to get the 913FD with the 8.2. I didn't have Titleist tip it any extra though, and I am sort of wishing I had. Still might.

glad you like it man. the straightness of the shaft seems to be what everyone ends up commenting on. I bet you actually pick up a few yards as your changes become less. coconscious and you have the confidence to just free wheel with it.

hit is with so much authority
that when you find it
and it sees you, it is trembling.
